The Mine Planning Engineer reports to the Senior Mine Planning Engineer and is responsible for carrying out a wide range of engineering functions including, but not limited to: mine planning, leach stacking plans, pit designs, stockpile, road and dump designs, mine analysis and production reporting, financial reporting, LOM planning, pit optimization, and technical reporting. The role will have direct involvement and communication with staff from other departments including Geology, Survey, Tailings, Geotechnical, Metallurgy, Maintenance and Operations.

Include but are not limited to:
•    Short-Term Planning
o    Develop and communicate engineering plans, technical reports and presentations, sequences, dumping priorities, etc. to Mine Operations and other stakeholders on site and ensure plans are carried out safely and efficiently
o    Lead pit tour with mine operations, support mine operations during the daily production meeting.
o    Optimize and improve short range planning processes
o    Develop weekly mine plan including both Drill and Blast, and Load and Haul, weekly mill feed strategy and reconcile weekly mine plan performance
o    Drill and Blast Planning and Scheduling 
o    
o    Perform pit design, dump design, road design, and infrastructure design as required
o    Identify risks (production and mine movement, equipment priorities, geotech, dewatering, grade, manpower, etc.) and opportunities that may impact the mine plans
o    Ensure information flow and buy-in to the mine plan process from various departments (load and haul, drill and blasts, processing etc).
o    Safety Performance & Record, perform field engagement and risk identifications
•    Medium Range Planning
o    Support team by performing Medium Range Planning duties when needed
•    Projects
o    Assist in a variety of mining projects by generating  information required and providing a recommendation to make the best business decision
•    Follow operating procedures and complies with all regulatory requirements.
•    Provide recommendations and ideas for continuous improvement of the production practices and mine planning activites
•    Adhere to all safety and environmental requirements
•    Wear PPE at all times while in the production environment. Stay alert and observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions. 
•    Other duties as assigned.

Études et expérience

•    An undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent required
•    One (1) to three (3) years' experience in open pit engineering preferred
•    Strong computer skills with mine design and scheduling programs (Deswik Spatial, Planning, and LHS,) required
•    Operational understanding of geotechnical, design and geology in an open-pit mine preferred
•    Valid Mauritanian Driver’s License required

•    Ability to read, write and speak English, Arabic and French preferred
•    Excellent safety record with ability to demonstrate safety leadership required
•    Team leadership, problem solving, and excellent verbal and written communication skills required
•    Strong communication skills and the proven ability to facilitate group meetings required
•    Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite preferred
