Job Description

 

At Kinross, we are modernizing and transforming our global technology platforms to enable secure, scalable, and resilient operations across corporate and remote mining environments. We are seeking a highly technical and hands-on Platform Engineering Lead to drive the evolution of our hybrid infrastructure ecosystem spanning on-premises datacenters, cloud platforms, automation frameworks, observability tooling, and enterprise integrations.This role combines platform engineering, cloud enablement, automation, architecture, and operational leadership. The successful candidate will work closely with infrastructure, cloud, security, networking, application, and operational teams to build reusable platform capabilities, improve reliability, accelerate delivery, and reduce operational complexity.The ideal candidate is passionate about modern engineering practices, Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, platform standardization, cloud adoption, and operational excellence. They will help define technical direction, implement scalable solutions, and mentor teams while remaining deeply involved in hands-on engineering activities.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Hybrid Infrastructure Modernization

  • Design, implement, and support hybrid infrastructure solutions across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Lead modernization initiatives focused on automation, standardization, resiliency, and operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to platform lifecycle management, capacity planning, performance optimization, and technology roadmaps.
  • Develop and maintain reference architectures, engineering standards, and platform patterns.
  • Support global infrastructure operations, including distributed and remote site environments.

Platform Engineering & Cloud Enablement

  • Build and maintain scalable platform services that enable infrastructure and application teams to deploy consistently and securely.
  • Support Microsoft Azure services and hybrid management capabilities including Azure Arc and centralized management platforms.
  • Design reusable engineering patterns, self-service capabilities, and operational frameworks.
  • Collaborate with business and technology teams to align platform capabilities with operational and business objectives.

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using modern automation frameworks.
  • Automate provisioning, configuration management, patching, monitoring, compliance validation, and operational workflows.
  • Improve platform reliability through orchestration, automation, and process optimization.
  • Reduce manual operational effort by developing reusable automation assets and engineering standards.

Observability, Reliability & Operations

  • Implement and enhance enterprise monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability capabilities.
  • Support backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and operational resiliency initiatives.
  • Drive operational maturity through proactive monitoring, incident reduction, and service reliability improvements.
  • Participate in troubleshooting complex infrastructure and platform issues across hybrid environments.

Architecture, Security & Governance

  • Participate in solution design reviews, architecture assessments, and technology evaluations.
  • Ensure platform solutions align with security, compliance, operational, and governance requirements.
  • Collaborate with security, cloud, networking, and application teams to establish scalable and supportable platform patterns.
  • Identify opportunities for performance optimization, cost efficiency, risk reduction, and platform consolidation.

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure, cloud engineering, platform engineering, or systems engineering roles.
  • Strong experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments spanning datacenter and cloud platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, cloud integration, and hybrid management technologies.
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, and configuration management practices.
  • Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, or similar technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization, compute, storage, networking, backup, and enterprise infrastructure platforms.
  • Experience supporting enterprise monitoring, observability, logging, and operational tooling platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting, operational support, and incident management capabilities.
  • Experience working in large enterprise, highly regulated, or multi-site environments.
  • Experience collaborating across infrastructure, cloud, security, networking, and application teams.
  • Good understanding of DevOps, platform engineering, and service reliability concepts.
  • Experience with Nutanix AHV, hyperconverged infrastructure, Azure Local, or similar platforms is considered an asset.
  • Experience in mining, industrial operations, manufacturing, or other distributed operational environments is an asset.

 

Compensation and Total Rewards

 

The base salary range for this role is $135,000 to $150,000 CAD plus a target Short-Term Incentive bonus of 25% and group benefit coverage. The hiring range reflects our targeted compensation framework for the role.

The actual offer will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of each candidate’s experience, capabilities, and potential impact, along with consideration of internal equity, team structure, and benchmark market data for similar positions.
