Job Description

 To oversee activities related to the accumulation and compilation of financial data for financial reports, to ensure service and / oroperating standards are met (internally and / or externally). To design and develop processes, practices, and methodologies in accounting.

Job Responsibilities

1. To oversee activities related to internal accounting

  • Manage the accounting function by independently preparing and coordinating the execution of month, quarter, and year-end procedures for each legal entity under this role’s supervision.
  • Accountable for the annual budget and forecast process for main legal entity. Prepare the budget for certain departments. Review and upload budget templates from department heads. Provide budgeting assistance to various operational department heads.
  • Act as the Finance lead on the annual Pension Audit, liaising with HR and Auditors, and prepare the financial statements.
  • Prepare/review payroll journal entries. Apply strict confidentiality to all sensitive information.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit various government issued financial surveys.
  • Using advanced professional knowledge, act as an advisor to a variety of internal and / or external requests regarding cost analysis and financial statements.
  • Proactively stay on top of trends related to internal accounting and incorporate this information into work assignments.
  • Propose new work approaches, methods, and policies to optimize performance and to ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards.
  • Make recommendations to the development of policies and practices related to accounting. Implement improvements to financial procedures and controls to maximize operational efficiencies by working collaboratively to gain consensus with other corporate and regional/site finance teams.
  • Provide support to senior management, give expert advice and support to regional/site finance teams for routine and non-routine situations. Adhere to all month/quarter end deadlines and communicate directly with regional/site finance teams as work directly impacts these teams.
  • Assign tasks to / review standard journal entries of junior staff, and provide guidance on escalated issues. Act as a resource for the team, providing training support and mentoring to team members.
  • Actively convey interest in continuous learning to improve technical knowledge and skills.
  • Participate in task forces and ad hoc projects related to area of expertise.

2. To analyze internal financial results for use in management decision making

  • Investigate, research, and analyze information and issues related to internal accounting.
  • Explain and present complex financial information to support strategic decision making for internal and external operational non-finance users.

3. To communicate information related to cost analyses and internal financial statements

  • Provide information on operating standards, compliance requirements, and policies.
  • Provide support to senior management and operating departments with cost analysis.
Education and Experience


  • University degree
  • Professional accounting designation: CPA (CMA or CGA)


  • 5 - 8 years of related work experience 
  • Sound understanding of controllership, full-cycle accounting, and internal reporting
  • Previous experience in the mining industry and with multi-entity organizations is preferred
  • Ability to learn quickly and flexibility to adapt to new requirements
  • Strong attention to detail, effective communication and analytical skills
  • Organizational skills to identify, prioritize, and meet strict and challenging deadlines
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (JD Edwards, EnterpriseOne is preferred)
