Great Bear Project
In March 2022 Kinross acquired Great Bear Resources and its flagship Great Bear project (GBR), located near Red Lake, Ontario. The Great Bear property is a greenfield, large-scale deposit with the potential for significant open pit and underground operations. In early 2025, the project moved into the detailed engineering and major equipment procurement phase. The Preliminary Economic Assessment released in September 2024 indicated a total initial project capital of $1.4B USD.
Job Description
Reporting to the VP & Project Director, the Project Services Manager is responsible to lead all aspects of schedule management, progress reporting, document control, insurance management, and risk management requirements for GBR. The incumbent is accountable to ensure that all departments are supported with the required information for effective decision making. The Project Services Manager will initially lead a team of 3 people, which is expected to grow to ~ 6 personnel during the construction execution phase.
This position is initially based out of Toronto, with periodic rotations to site. Full site rotations are expected to begin in Q2 2027.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage the overall schedule, progress, document control, insurance, and risk management requirements for GBR
- Develop and implement relevant sections of the Project Controls Management Plan and supporting procedures
- Lead all scheduling activities, including establishing the overall approach for GBR, vendors and contractors, and ensuring that scheduling meets the information, quality and timing requirements to support decision making for the Project
- Prepare and update project schedules as required for permitting, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, and review and provide feedback on engineering consultants and contractor schedules.
- Lead all progress reporting requirements, including establishing rules of credit, vendors and contractors progress reporting requirements, progress reporting requirements for internal departments (i.e. permitting) and progress reporting formats
- Manage all aspects of document management and document control requirements, including the development of supporting procedures and training plans, ensuring the system and processes continue to meet and scale to support GBR document control requirements and management of the document handover process
- Recruit, train and lead the Project Services team members
- Maintain the Request for Information (RFI) system and related processes
- Build and develop relationship with vendor and contractor counterparts, and attend kick-off and contract meetings (or identify designate) as required
- Ensure the GBR Project Team are kept current on schedule /progress and related issues and risks through recurring meetings and ongoing communication
- Act as GBR liaison for all project specific insurance requirements, including interfacing with Kinross insurance and brokers, coordinating all insurer technical and financial inputs, coordinating claims, and arranging site visits as required.
- Under the direction of the Risk Management consultant, support risk management activities, including preparation for risk workshops; and monitoring and reporting on risk actions.
- Work closely with the Cost Control & Contract Admin Manager to ensure cost, schedule and progress interfaces are in place for effective and accurate time phased cost, earned value and other reporting.
- Provide input into WBS, hours and quantity tracking processes.
Education and Experience
- Degree in engineering, business administration or related field
- At least 15 years of experience in project controls and project services on mining or heavy industrial projects, with at least 5 years experience as a project controls or project services lead or manager.
- At least 5 years experience in major project planning and scheduling
