Great Bear Project

 

In March 2022 Kinross acquired Great Bear Resources and its flagship Great Bear project (GBR), located near Red Lake, Ontario.  The Great Bear property is a greenfield, large-scale deposit with the potential for significant open pit and underground operations. In 2025, the project has moved into the detailed engineering and major equipment procurement phase. The Preliminary Economic Assessment released in September 2024 indicated a total initial project capital of $1.4B.

 

Job Summary

 

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Package Specialist provides package oversight, coordination, and planning for select complex work packages during Detailed Engineering phase. These packages require a high level of interface with internal, and at times external, stakeholder Great Bear Project during Detailed Engineering.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for the following work packages:
    • Camp design, supply, install contract
    • Camp catering contract
    • Waste management contract
  • Other packages as directed by the Great Bear Engineering Manager
  • Participate in the procurement process by ensuring quality scopes of work are developed and bid evaluations are undertaken
  • Post-award to work with the successful vendor to advance through the design phase and, where applicable, the fabrication phase to ensure a high quality of work, interfacing with internal resources as required
  • Ensure all allocated packages remain on schedule and budget
  • Planning and coordination of these packages in preparation for Construction Phase
  • Coordinate meetings, workshops, and reviews for internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Work in collaboration with Great Bear Project engineering, procurement, IT, human resources, health & safety, security, environment, permitting and project controls teams when their input is needed or required
  • Liaise with Great Bear External Relations team and at times Indigenous groups, as applicable
  • Maintain meeting minutes, project decisions records, risk/issue trackers, and follow‑ups with project stakeholders.
  • Other duties or smaller work packages as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma or degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management or a related field
  • 10 years or more project management experience on complex, muti-disciplinary projects
  • Experience in the mining industry and/or larger capital projects would be an asset
  • Excellent ability to negotiate with stakeholders, resolve conflicts and manage resources to deliver projects on time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to maintain and foster strong working relationships
  • Strong attention to detail with proven organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity procurement and construction management processes
  • Strong proficiency with computer and MS Office, Teams, and SharePoint

Compensation and Total Rewards

 

The base salary range for this role is $100,000 to $130,000 CAD plus a target bonus of 20% and group benefit coverage.
