Purpose of Role

 

Provides geological interpretation and resource estimation supporting the company’s operations, exploration and merger and acquisitions activities. The role spans the entire mining life cycle from discovery, exploration, development, construction, operations, closure and reclamation. Key areas of responsibility include; geology modelling (including orebody characterization), resource estimation support, resource and reserve reporting and support of near mine exploration.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Develop innovative 3D geologic models: 
    • Optimization of existing geologic models
    • Creation of detailed structural and alteration models
    • Run geochemical interpolants
    • Improve understanding of primary and secondary alteration and its implication for BWI, leaching, cyanide consumption and density
  • Responds to a variety of internal and / or external requests from technical teams such as:
    • Identifying gaps and works with the team to agree upon solutions for implementation
    • Supports making recommendations for opportunities that could maximize efficiency and productivity of the operation 
  • Analyses and interprets various forms of data including (but not limited to) assay, geological, geochemical and metallurgical data
  • Reviews and provides feedback on all technical and project proposals to ensure adherence to best practices
  • Ensures projects have clear and appropriate decision points and that they are adhered to
  • Responsible for geological interpretations to support near mine exploration, projects, studies and operations
  • Liaises with brownfields exploration and site teams to ensure the effective alignment of strategic exploration programs and plans
  • Investigates issues at site and prepares technical documents such as site memos / reports to support decision-making, and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders (ex. Technical Services Management’s technical teams)
  • Liaises with site/project groups to ensure consistency and quality of geological data provided
  • Ensures adequate quality control procedures (ex. Peer review process) are in place and adhered to
  • Assists with resource estimation to support brownfield exploration, projects, studies and operations
  • Takes full responsibility for own analysis; adapts workplan with minimal guidance if/when priorities change; effectively plans and establishes next steps
  • Builds collaborative relationships at corporate and sites, facilitating transfer of data and information as required; demonstrates consistent ability to work with many personality types and own relationships; fully empathizes with site challenges

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Undergraduate Degree in Geology
  • 5+ years of mining related experience
  • Mine and exploration geology experience
  • Minimum of three years as a mine geologist/ore control
  • Ability to build complex geological models
  • Experience with Leapfrog, Vulcan, Ore Pro3D preferred
  • Fluent English, Spanish and Portuguese languages skills an asset
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time globally
