Job Description

 

The goal of the Corporate Development Team is to identify, assess and execute business-enhancing corporate transactions (including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and equity investments involving mining assets or related infrastructure) that are aligned with Kinross’ broader corporate strategy.

 

The role of Manager, Corporate Development is comparable to that of an Associate in an investment banking environment who is responsible for compiling, analyzing and effectively communicating quantitative and qualitative information in support of all aspects of Corporate Development activities.  This includes the ownership and continuous enhancement of the Corporate Model and related processes. The role also supports all of Corporate Development’s ongoing initiatives including due diligence activities, transaction execution, the Junior Equity Investment (“JEI”) portfolio and development of the Corporate Strategy.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

1. Corporate Model

  • Overall management of the Corporate Model through collaboration with technical services, operations, tax, and finance teams to ensure most current information is accurately reflected
  • Analysis and interpretation of financial projections related to the corporate model, including liquidity forecasting, Impairment Testing and various scenario analysis


2. Due diligence support

  • Management of financial and technical due diligence processes in the evaluation of potential opportunities
  • Analysis and interpretation of technical and financial information including financial filings,  technical studies and industry reports
  • Development of internal documentation and presentations including business proposals to Senior Management and the Board of Directors


3. Other analysis and responsibilities

  • Monitor equity portfolio investments, and assist with execution of sales and new investments
  • Remain up to date with on mining industry developments relevant to CD through interactions with Kinross teams globally, and through interactions with financial advisors
  • Review and maintain internal documentation and procedures
  • Contribute to special projects, as required

 

Scope of Responsibility and Complexity

 

Work is complex involving both routine tasks and unique projects often under tight time constraints. In all cases the Manager, Corporate Development is expected to ensure assigned projects are completed on-time, and to a high standard. A broad working knowledge of other discipline areas, with respect to their impacts on financial models and M&A evaluation is required. Where appropriate, it is expected that the analyst will identify, evaluate and implement modifications to projects, plans and procedures in response to needs. Work is performed under varying degrees of supervision and requires judgement and adaptability.  Short notice travel may be required periodically. This role will supervise the work of a Corporate Development Analyst or Intern when such positions are filled.

Required Qualifications

 

Education

  • University degree, ideally in Engineering, Geology, Business, Finance, or Accounting
  • CFA, CSC, CBV, CA or similar certifications would be an asset

​​​​​​​Experience

  • 4-5 years of related work experience in the investment banking, equity research, corporate development, or private equity
  • Direct technical experience in the mining industry, is a strong asset
  • Experience developing, auditing and analyzing financial models
  • General familiarity with the precious metals mining industry

 

Skills

 

  • High level of proficiency with financial modeling in Excel
  • Demonstrated mastery of quantitative analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly, flexibility in fast-paced environment, strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and with limited direct supervision
