Job Description

The Manager, Corporate Accounting & Analysis is a key leadership role within the Corporate Finance team, responsible for managing the accounting function, performing key analyses, and driving process and system improvements across the various corporate entities. This responsibility includes managing certain recurring corporate accounting processes, reviewing and contributing to month and quarter end close activities, overseeing annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting for corporate entities, performing internal financial reporting and analysis for corporate entities, and optimizing processes and systems within the Corporate Finance team. The Manager, Corporate Accounting & Analysis will apply best practices to bring efficiency and effectiveness to the corporate accounting processes, drive process improvements while maintaining all necessary controls and managing a team of staff accountants.

Job Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Compliance

  • Manage the accounting function for certain active and holding companies, including liaising with other functions and internal / external auditors as required.
  • Administer accurate, complete and timely accounting in accordance with Kinross accounting policies and procedures while maintaining rigorous control standards.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses prepared by accounting analysts, including preparation of the same for more complex matters.
  • Manage intercompany and external gold sales transactions.
  • Review variance analyses prepared by regional corporate offices and collaborate with counterparts to understand submissions and results.
  • Support statutory or intercompany processes as needed, including transfer pricing costing.
  • Lead work on non-routine transactions, analyses, and projects including ad-hoc research and cross-functional participation to support business decisions; participate in task forces as needed.
  • Support corporate accounting team members with accounting guidance and collaborate with other Finance teams such as Financial Reporting, FP&A or Tax in areas where such subject matter expertise is required.
  • Facilitate relationship with external auditors, including overseeing the preparation of pension statements for the Canadian pension plan and other statutory financial statements.

 

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Support Senior Manager, Corporate Finance in quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting processes for the Toronto, Denver and The Hague office general and administrative, business development and exploration departments.

 

Strategic Projects & Process Improvement

  • Manage or act as a lead contributor on Finance optimization projects and IT Software implementation projects within the Corporate Finance functions.
  • Propose new work approaches, methods, and practices to optimize performance, and to ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards.
  • Maintain a focus on transformation by making recommendations to business and control processes and implement improvements to maximize operational efficiencies and increase governance by working collaboratively to gain consensus with other corporate and regional/site finance teams.
  • Optimize the Corporate Accounting function’s use of the enterprise performance management platform (Onestream) by proposing new use cases, building or configuring reports and providing training thereof across the Corporate Accounting team.
  • Team Management:  Manage a team of 2-4 direct reports of varying degrees of professional skills.

Education and Experience

Education

  • University degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Formal accounting designation (e.g. CPA or international equivalent)

 

Experience

  • 7+ years of related work experience, including management/supervisory skills
  • Experience with Onestream or equivalent enterprise performance management platform is key. Experience with JD Edwards enterprise resource planning is also ideal.
