Purpose of Role

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to join our Environment & Permitting team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a student to gain hands-on experience in environmental management, supporting our organization’s sustainability goals and commitment to responsible business practices by modernizing performance tracking and data management.

As an intern, you will work alongside our Environment & Permitting team to assist with various projects and tasks that contribute to our environmental stewardship. Your responsibilities may include developing  automated data analysis tools and reports, research on environmental regulatory requirements, and supporting permitting activities. You’ll gain valuable insight into the processes that drive sustainable practices within a corporate setting and contribute to meaningful projects that positively impact our organization and surrounding communities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of automated data verification and reporting related to various environmental factors such as Incident reporting, waste management, water management and biodiversity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant information from different departments and sites within the organization to ensure accurate and comprehensive environmental reporting.
  • Research industry best practices and emerging trends in ESG reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental reports, presentations, and other communication materials for internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in the creation of EMS (environmental management standards) training videos and liaising with relevant business partners.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions related to strategy and initiatives, providing input and suggestions based on research and analysis.
  • Contribute to the identification and tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) for environmental programs and projects.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of environmental related targets and goals, ensuring progress is measured and reported accurately.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the organization's environmental databases and platforms, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.

Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in AI and data management engineering, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, sustainability, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in and familiarity with environmental reporting, sustainability, and responsible business practices.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, interpret, and synthesize information from various sources.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and automation tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Detail-oriented mindset, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant sustainability regulations, guidelines, and industry standards is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

Compensation & Total Rewards

The base salary range for this role is $44,226 to $60,060 CAD, plus 4% vacation pay.

The hiring range reflects our targeted compensation framework for the role. The actual offer will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of each candidate’s experience, capabilities, and potential impact, along with consideration of internal equity, team structure, and benchmark market data for similar positions.
