Purpose of Role
The analyst intern will support current business needs, which may vary over the course of the internship. A successful intern should be flexible and eager to take on new and different tasks to support the business and expand their learning opportunities. The following is a list of areas where the business commonly needs support.
This is a unique opportunity to be exposed to different disciplines within the company and also gain site experience or preparation for a role at site. Additionally, working from our corporate office gives you context about our sites and how they all tie in to the broader portfolio, and impact shareholders and the market. The teams you will be working with are engaged and high-performing, and include approachable people from all walks of life. They are very hands-on and take mentorship seriously, so you will receive a lot of support, guidance, and training to gain the skills you need to get the job done. By the end of your internship, you will have developed tangible business skills that will help you get the most out of your final year(s) of university and set a meaningful foundation for your career post-graduation.
Job Responsibilities
Support performance improvement projects in the assessment and/or implementation phases:
• Collect and analyze data, summarizing findings in a structured format
• Work collaboratively with site, regional and corporate teams
• Monitor and report on progress of implementation action plans
• Participate in the development of communication materials to share progress and challenges with site and corporate management as required
Support business case development:
• Support the development of business cases for continuous improvement project decisions, including preparation and/or validation of analysis to ensure accuracy
• As needed, work closely with the other teams on site (e.g., Maintenance, Operations, Technical Services) or other corporate functions (e.g., Finance, Technical Services etc.)
• Think creatively, thinking with a solution-oriented mindset on how to add value to the business case.
Work closely with Corporate and Site CI Teams to identify improvement opportunities and develop implementation plans:
• Analyze site and global operations, cost and maintenance data and identify improvement opportunities
• Assist in prioritizing improvement opportunities and developing implementation plans
• Identify KPIs to improve, track and measure progress against set targets
• Perform internal and external benchmarking exercises to compare sites performance and highlight areas for improvement
Support the Corporate Continuous Improvement Programs:
• Aid in the consolidation of CI program updates from sites, synthesizing results into easy-to-read formats for internal reporting.
• Develop and update Power BI reports/dashboards for tracking progress of programs and initiatives
• Assist in CI and Maintenance reporting to senior leadership
Minimum Requirements
- 2nd or 3rd year Engineering student
- Strong analytical capabilities and experience in Excel
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral; experience in PowerPoint is an asset
- Experience with PowerBI or other data visualization softwares is an asset
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proven ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Team player with an ability to work effectively in a team setting, as well as independently
- Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task
- Experience working at a mine site is an asset
- Language skills in French, Arabic, Portuguese, or Spanish are assets, but not mandatory
- Ability to work on multiple projects
