Job Description

This role is accountable for the performance and results of HR programs and policies across Kinross operations globally. Leveraging the regional operating model, the role will engage with regional HR leads to ensure that programs designed by the various Centres of Excellence are implemented effectively. This role participates in the development of the global HR strategy and ensures that all the center of excellence programs are aligned to, and support that strategy. 

The role will provide leadership to the HR business partnering team for both the Toronto and The Hague offices. In addition, the incumbent is accountable for oversight and management of Kinross’ Global Mobility Program.

Job Responsibilities

1. Leadership

  1. Overall accountability for the execution of Leadership Development framework and supporting programs below executive level.
  2. Builds and develops capability models and facilitates their operational integration across Leadership Development, Performance Management and Talent Management processes
  3. Designs and Implements Operational leadership strategies
  4. Provides guidance and oversight for Individual Development plan framework, strategy and roll-out
  5. Provides guidance and oversight globally for Individual Development Plans below executive level

2. Talent Management

  1. Provides guidance on the execution of  the Talent Management framework, and supporting programs
  2. Provides oversight into programs to identify and develop top, emerging and valued talent below executive level
  3. Provides guidance to determine criteria regarding identification of critical roles, which apply to Kinross globally
  4. Supports team members to facilitate Talent Review sessions in partnership with HR Business Partners
  5. Keeps up to date with best practices in Talent Management

3. Learning

  1. Provides guidance and oversight for the global learning strategy including online Kinross University
  2. Helps to achieve global buy-in for learning strategies
  3. Accountable to connect Learning Strategy to Talent, Performance and Leadership Strategies

4. Performance Management

  1. Provides guidance and oversight into the Performance Management process across Kinross operations and ensures compliance to the strategy
  2. Provides oversight on training programs, to meet specific site and regional nuances and facilitates/supports implementation
  3. Provides oversight for the communication programs ensuring that leaders and participants are informed and engaged.

5. Talent Acquisition

a. Provides guidance and oversight for the management of Kinross’ internal Talent acquisition model accountable for expat and Toronto based hires

6. Business partner  - Toronto Corporate and The Hague Office

a. Provides leadership and guidance to the Corporate HR team for Toronto and the Netherlands.

7. Global Mobility

  1. Provides guidance and oversight for Kinross’ Global mobility strategy, framework, policies and execution, including the dotted line management of the shared service center operated out of The Hague.
  2. Serves as an escalation point for issues relating to global mobility and provides input and feedback to management of KGML as needed.
  3. Provides guidance on the management of Internal Assignees, as well as assignees on development programs, ensuring timelines are in line with business needs, and compliance is fully addressed.

8. HR system

  1. Provides guidance and oversight for HR systems that support Kinross operations including JDE HR and SuccessFactors
  2. Provides guidance on the road map of technology enabling the delivery of the HR programs and practices across the organization.

9. General

    1. Manages the Toronto-based HR Operations teams, providing leadership guidance and support to them.
    2. Develops team members and builds their skills and expertise, provides feedback and coaching for performance and development, holds the team accountable to deliver against priorities, manages succession, etc
    3. Follows industry trends and best practices with respect to all areas of accountability
    4. Plans and manages against annual budgets for all areas of accountability
    5. Fosters and promotes team wide close collaboration with the Global HR function
Education and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Labour/Industrial Relations, Finance, or another related area of expertise
  • Preferred Masters of Business Administration or equivalent commercial degree
  • CHRP certification preferred

Experience

  • Generally more than 10 years of HR experience,
  • Previous experience in the mining industry preferred.
  • Previous experience within complex global environments and working with a global team; demonstrated experience with the principles of Talent Management, Performance Management and Succession Planning
  • Prior project management experience, and experience in planning and implementing leadership and talent projects in complex global environments.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and senior management
  • Confident presenter and speaker to senior audiences
  • Proven leadership skills under dynamic and varying business conditions
  • Financial and commercial literacy for application to complex and ambiguous business challenges
  • Demonstrated coaching skills and team building capabilities; excellent relationship management skills
  • Strong project management experience
  • Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to find pragmatic solutions that meets the needs of the business
  • Able to work at a detailed level to complete or review analysis and develop business focused outcomes, but also look at the big picture
  • Able to lead complex projects and manage multiple competing priorities
  • Good business sense and knowledge of financial measures
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, and comfortable with ambiguity and change
  • Sense of urgency and ability to deliver accurately to tight deadlines
  • Good knowledge of applicable labour / employment law
