Job Description
To oversee the daily activities of the global engineering function for major projects and site led activities, to support developing and deploying engineering talent at Kinross.
The role will report to the Senior Director, Engineering & Energy and work closely with Kinross’ Corporate and Site leadership teams, Supply Chain, Technical Services, Strategic Business Planning, Projects, Corporate Development, Safety, Sustainability, Maintenance, and Continuous improvement to support a portfolio of operations and projects.
Job Responsibilities
Manage Kinross’ corporate engineering department
- Scope includes mechanical, piping, civil, structural engineering, electrical, instrumentation and controls
- Establish or update engineering corporate standards and documents for engineering at Kinross, for use both on major projects and sustaining capital projects
- Participate in the hiring and ongoing development of engineering resources in the corporate office. Support the development of engineering talent at Kinross, soliciting input from key stakeholders such as Project Directors
- Support the sites by providing engineering, project management, commissioning and construction support expertise
- Establish procedures to review the quality of engineering work taking place on a project (e.g., QA/QC audit) by external parties
Oversee the work of engineers within the department who are involved in projects in the study and or execution phase
- Work with Project Directors to establish Owner’s Team engineering requirements for a project and develop an appropriateI staffing recommendation to fulfill the needs. As requested, prepare scopes of work and give input into the contracting of engineering expertise outside of Kinross
- Provide guidance and act as a resource to Owner’s Team engineers. Provide ongoing support, in the form of expertise, troubleshooting and/or guidance, to Owner’s Team engineers assigned to projects
- Stay in contact with Project Directors to understand evolving needs of the project and performance of engineer(s) supporting the project
- As required, review the quality of engineering work taking place on a project (e.g., QA/QC audit) from study phase through to construction and commissioning
- Assist Supply Chain in preparing and executing engineering service agreements, procurement and construction contracts
Provide technical support to site operations
- Provide engineering services and support for workstreams led by sites. This may include field visits, technical analysis, peer review of work by others, engineering calculations, preparation of engineering documents, and recommendations
- Support in developing the resulting capital estimates and project execution plans
Minimum Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Formal professional designation in engineering
- 15+ years of related work experience including engineering management in a multidisciplinary environment in the mining industry
- Thorough understanding of mining projects including mine development, process plants, and all related infrastructure. Experience with both study and execution phases of mining projects
- Experience with engineering management of large projects. This includes development and management of scope of work, schedules, budget as well as co-ordination. Working with engineering consultants, vendors, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of large multi-disciplinary teams
- International experience is an asset
- Project management or operational experience are an asset
- Language skills in Spanish, French or Portuguese are an asset

Compensation and Total Rewards
The base salary range for this role is $205,000 to $225,000 CAD plus a 30% target STI,15% target LTI, and group benefit coverage.
The hiring range reflects our targeted compensation framework for the role. The actual offer will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of each candidate’s experience, capabilities, and potential impact, along with consideration of internal equity, team structure, and benchmark market data for similar positions.
