Job Description

The Procurement Specialist will assist with the development and execution of innovative category management strategies that deliver sustainable enterprise value including achievement of cost reduction targets.  The Procurement Specialist will work with the Category Lead and Category Analysts to develop category strategies, and will work closely with key suppliers to drive successful category management and support development of strategic priorities. The Procurement Specialist will also monitor the delivery of key contracts and capture financial savings through negotiation of contract terms, conditions and end-to-end management of supplier performance.  Applies analytical insights, data management, and data modeling skills to the design and development of processes, practices, and methodologies. The Procurement Specialist will assist the development, implementation, measurement (KPI) and continuous improvement of technical and commercial initiatives for supply chain strategy and processes. Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent application and integration of supply processes across the organization

Job Responsibilities

  • Supports the development, implementation and execution of the sourcing and purchasing strategy, (including primary and secondary categories) globally for projects, operations, and maintenance
  • Coordinates with the technical services, project and business services and suppliers in each operating region / country / site to evaluate opportunities
  • Supports relationships with internal and external customers as subject matter expert related to area(s) of responsibility
  • Support preparation of relevant commodity, service and product information necessary to recommend global, regional and local supply chain solutions
  • Excellent collaboration skills required to solicit inputs from a global team and have ability to work within this team for successful implementation
  • Support the identification of cost savings and process / service improvement opportunities
  • Develops, analyzes, and publishes statistical data for management reports
  • Support development of new contracts, reviews and provides recommendations/modifications for existing and developing contracts according to corporate guidelines
  • Establishes category priorities based on benefits and opportunities
  • Supports maintenance of a computerized contracts system to track agreements and generate reports
  • Develops and tracks contract and supplier performance metrics
  • Ensures managed categories are in compliance with all Kinross policies and procedures (including SCM and Environment, Health and Safety)
  • Develops and tracks appropriate controls & systems to meet compliance requirements.
  • Support in the establishment of performance standards and evaluation processes to assess and report on procurement and category management activities in relation to progress against targets for customer satisfaction, value generation and compliance.
  • Act as the local subject matter expert on supply chain policy issues
  • Participate in the implementation of supply chain processes and systems to ensure policy requirements are achieved and to reduce organizational risk

Education and Experience

Education

  • University degree (Bachelor’s or higher) in Engineering, Business or related field
  • Diploma in Materials Management, Commerce, Business, Law, Finance or other formal recognized qualifications in an equivalent discipline.
  • Formal professional or technical designation in appropriate area of expertise


Experience

  • Generally more than 5 years of direct experience in category / commodity / contracts management or equivalent. 
  • Strong knowledge of contract terms & conditions
  • Strong understanding of category management, contracting and pricing models
  • Strong understanding of best practice procurement policies and procedures
  • Understanding of complex (international) supply chains and inventory principles
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance
  • Basic understanding of relevant supply market structures and value levers
  • Basic understanding of commercial aspects of product / service categories
  • International experience preferred
  • Procurement experience preferred
  • Combination of domestic and international commercial experience
  • Supplier relationship management and contracts / contractor management
  • Mining industry experience preferred

Skills

  • Strong commercial skills with ability to organize work and maintain adherence to Standards & Policy.
  • Excellent communication and personnel skills and proactive team player.
  • Sound negotiating capabilities and documentation skills with high attention to detail.
  • Well-developed and sound knowledge of large ERP Supply Chain Management Modules.
  • Self-starter, ability to work alone and un-supervised is essential with Time Management skills.
  • ERP systems, JDE experience is advantageous
  • Strong computer literacy (Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio) is required
  • Strong knowledge of the mining supply chain process is preferred
