The Manh Choh Project is a greenfield gold deposit in eastern Alaska being developed with ore being hauled to Kinross’ Fort Knox mine north of Fairbanks for processing. The mine site is located in the Tetlin Hills, approximately 250 miles southeast of Fort Knox and 10 miles southeast of Tok. Production is expected to begin in 2024.

Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating geology functions at the mine site related to ore control. Manage the implementation of all new programs in mine geology area.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for all ore control activities at Manh Choh.
  • Assist in the screening and hiring of staff and field personnel for the Geology department.
  • Responsible for operations personnel training to guide mining and minimize dilution.
  • Development of site ore and waste characterization and pit mapping.
  • Development and preparation of monthly reconciliation and reporting.
  • Provide Support for slope stability monitoring and hazard identification.
  • Compile and track monthly resource and reserve reconciliation.
  • Ensure best practices are implemented to minimize dilution and maximize ore recovery.
  • Responsible for resource development through near-mine exploration.
  • Responsible for accurate reserve and resource reporting.
  • Support the Chief Geotechnical Engineer in slope stability monitoring and hazard identification.
  • Ensure that geological information is kept updated in a timely and efficient manner for input into short- and long-term models.
  • Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions, and carrying out corrective actions as needed.
  • Investigate, analyze and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries and equipment damage, and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
  • Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct them.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

Education
• Bachelor of Science in geology or related field is required.

  • Experience
  • Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.Must have a strong commitment to safety in the work environment.
  • A minimum of seven years’ experience as a mine geologist is required.
  • Sr. level experience in open pit, bulk tonnage operations is required.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience managing drilling programs is preferred.
  • A thorough understanding of the efficient use of geologic instruments, techniques, and interpretation of data.
  • Experience with Minesight, Leapfrog, Orepro and AcQuire preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Must be available for shift work, holidays, and weekends.
