Job Description

The Senior Mine Planning Engineer reports to the Mine Planning Superintendent and will be leading a small team of mining professionals. Their primary tasks will include, oversight of the short range planners, and drill and blast engineers. Other tasks may include assisting with managing projects for the operations, as well as technical support, coaching and mentoring the Mine Planning Engineers I & II to meet short-range and long-range planning objectives. The role will have direct involvement and communication with staff from other departments including Geology, Survey, Tailings, Geotechnical, Metallurgy, Maintenance and Operations.

Job Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:
•    Provide visible and felt leadership in support of health and safety programs
•    Work in collaboration with all site functions to determine plan and design input parameters and assumptions
•    Review and oversee the development of weekly and monthly short range plans 
•    Liaise with mine operations to ensure practicality of designs and schedules
•    Work in collaboration with all site functions to determine plan and design input parameters and assumptions
•    Optimize and improve short range planning and drill and blast processes
•    Ensure the Mining Operations team is adhering to pit, waste, stockpile, drill, and blast schedules and designs
•    Review and action improvements to mining operation performance against plans and budget
•    Prepare 3 Month Plan in cooperation with stakeholders to meet Budget and Forecast Plans
•    Prepare monthly cost,performance reports, and presentations to support planning results
•    Assist in the development, maintenance, and documenting Standards, Processes, and Procedures for mine planning and drill and blast functions
•    Oversee the creation of and approve drill and blast designs
•    Provide technical direction for the mine related to operations strategy and implementation
•    Oversee the development of and coach direct reports including Short Range Planners,  and Drill and Blast Engineers
•    Perform workplace inspections and audits as part of the Kinross Tasiast Safety Program
•    Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements 
•    Generates, evaluates and implements recommendations and ideas for continuous improvement of the production practices and mine planning activities
•    Adhere to all safety and environmental requirements
•    Wear PPE at all times while in the production environment. Stay alert and observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions
•    Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

•    An undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent required
•    Minimum 5 years of experience in mine engineering in an open pit environment required
•    Minimum 2 years of experience in open pit drill and blast engineering required
•    Strong experience in open pit mine planning, design, scheduling, production, and project management required
•    High level of competence in the use of mine planning and drill an blast software, including optimization techniques and strong experience in the use of Deswik, and Orica ShotPlus required
•    Valid Mauritanian Driver’s License required
