Purpose of the Role
The Health, Safety, and Environmental Advisor is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of personnel involved in exploration activities. Reporting to the Senior HSE Lead, this role involves implementing and maintaining health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs, conducting risk assessments, promoting a culture of safety excellence within the exploration team, and actively supporting the Senior HSE Lead in various HSE initiatives.
Key Areas of Responsibility and Duties
Includes but not limited to:
• HSE Program Management: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive HSE programs and policies tailored to the specific needs of exploration projects.
• Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments for SENISA’s activities, identifying potential hazards and recommending mitigation measures.
• Safety Training: Develop, deliver and track HSE training programs for all exploration personnel, including onboarding of new staff and contractors.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant HSE rules, regulations, SOPs and permits related to exploration activities.
• Incident Management: Lead and coordinate the investigation of HSE incidents, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
• Emergency Response: Establish and maintain effective emergency response plans for exploration sites, including drills and training.
• Contractor Management: Monitor and audit contractor HSE performance to ensure adherence to safety standards and company policies.
• Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular inspections and audits of SENISA sites, equipment, and practices to identify and rectify potential safety issues.
• Data and Reporting: Maintain accurate HSE records and reports, providing regular updates to management and relevant stakeholders as required.
• Environmental Stewardship: Promote environmental responsibility within SENISA sites, minimizing environmental impact.
• Safety Communication: Facilitate communication of safety-related information to all personnel and contractors, ensuring everyone is informed and aware of safety protocols.
• HSE Program Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving HSE processes and practices and implement necessary changes.
• Support for Senior HSE Lead: Collaborate closely with the Senior HSE Lead by conducting training, field assessments, and providing strong visible HSE leadership in the field.
Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements
Mandatory skills and requirements for this position:
• Technical Certification in Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications in HSE management (e.g., CSP, CIH, NEBOSH).
• Familiar with OSHA standards and procedures
• 3 to 5 years’ experience in HSE roles, preferably in mining or exploration.
• First Aid qualified.
• Valid light vehicle driving license.
• Proficiency in MSWord, Excel and PowerPoint Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and best practices.
• Excellent communication and training skills.
• Problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe and responsible working environment.
Desirable Skill, Knowledge, Training, and Experience:
• Previous leadership experience and management of exploration HSE.
• Experience in Managing HSE training program for a drilling program
• Experience in onboarding and inducting drilling contractors
• Experience in managing drilling team training
• Experience in HSE advisory to drilling operations management
• A thorough understanding of the efficient use of geologic instruments, techniques, and interpretation of data.
• Experience working in the KINROSS HSE culture or equivalent multinational organization.
