Purpose of the Role

The Exploration Technician plays a vital role in supporting the exploration and drilling operations of our mining company. Reporting to the Exploration Technician Supervisor, this position is responsible for assisting in the execution of exploration projects by providing technical support, collecting geological data, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the implementation of QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) protocols. The Exploration Technician will work closely with geologists, engineers, and other team members to ensure the success of exploration activities.
 

Key Areas of Responsibility and Duties

Includes but not limited to:
•    Field Data Collection: Assist in the collection of geological and geophysical data during exploration activities. Conduct soil and rock sampling, core logging, and geological mapping as directed by the Exploration Technician Supervisor. Ensure accurate and timely data collection in the field.
•    Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operate and maintain exploration equipment and tools, including drills, core splitters, and geophysical instruments. Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of equipment to ensure reliability. Report equipment malfunctions or issues promptly.
•    Sample Handling and Preparation: Assist in the handling, labeling, and packaging of rock and soil samples for analysis. Prepare samples for laboratory testing and maintain sample integrity. Ensure proper storage and documentation of samples.
•    Site Safety and Environmental Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Follow environmental regulations and guidelines during exploration activities. Report any safety or environmental concerns to the Exploration Technician Supervisor.
•    QA/QC Protocol Execution: Implement and adhere to QA/QC protocols for data collection and sample handling. Ensure that QA/QC measures are followed rigorously to maintain data accuracy and reliability. Participate in QA/QC audits and inspections as required.
•    Assist in Drilling Operations: Support drilling operations by helping with equipment setup, core retrieval, and drilling rig maintenance. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of drill sites.
•    Data Recording and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of exploration activities, including field notes, data sheets, and equipment logs. Assist in the preparation of exploration reports and documentation.
•    Team Collaboration: Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and other team members to achieve exploration project objectives. Communicate effectively and contribute to a positive team dynamic.

Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements

Mandatory skills and requirements for this position:
•    Technical Certification (BT) or equivalent is required.
•    Two to three years’ experience as a field technician, field technician in drilling or in a similar role is preferred.
•    Possess valid driving license.
•    Ability to operate and maintain exploration equipment and tools.
•    Capable to install properly a rig with the azimuth and dip proposed.
•    Medium level GPS User and mag susceptibility meters user.
•    Minimum high intermediate PC user (Microsoft Office), Basic GIS software knowledge.
•    Advance knowledge of geological sampling process in all stages, including basic knowledge of quality control sampling.
•    XRF Niton Basic knowledge data acquisition
•    Capability to read geological maps
•    Proven knowledge of Quality Control sampling and sampling dispatch.
•    Proven knowledge of basic geotech core logging (recovery, RQD)
•    Physical fitness and the ability to work in challenging outdoor conditions.
•    Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
•    Effective communication and teamwork skills.
•    Commitment to follow health, safety, environmental, and QA/QC protocols.
•    Complete understanding of all safety requirements whilst sampling in the fields
•    Good personal housekeeping is essential.
•    Ability to function within the time frame given and carry out all tasks as directed by his supervisor.
•    Effective problem-solving skills.

Desirable Skill, Knowledge, Training, and Experience:
•    Understanding of all aspects associated with sampling process.
•    Basic knowledge of different type of drilling at least Reverse Circulation and diamond drilling.
•    Basic to medium knowledge of others type of drilling like auger and sonic drilling.
