Job Description

The MEM Supervisor is reporting to MEM Superintendent within the MEM department and is accountable for the safe, efficient, accurate and cost effective maintenance of the mobile equipment fleet at Kinross Gold – Tasiast Mine. The incumbent will provide technical, leadership, and experience abilities to maintain a mobile equipment fleet composed of LVs, MVs, and CAT 793, Komatsu 785 haul trucks, CAT 6060FS, RH340, Komatsu PC1250 production shovels, Sandvic DR580, Bucyrus, Pit Vipers PV235 drill rigs, CAT 994H loaders, in addition to other auxiliary equipment, so that the business objectives of the company are consistently achieved through the efficient management of the operation

Job Responsibilities

Includes but not limited to:

  • Ensure all maintenance tasks performed are within the compliance of Kinross safe operating procedures, standard job guidelines and if not, a comprehensive job safety analysis is performed
  • Provide a safe, efficient and effective work place.
  • Oversee day to day maintenance activities by taking attendance, scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
  • Identify spares requirements and order according to MEM department procedure
  • Collaborate with mine operation supervisor and other clients to ensure consistent service and repair as per maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Diagnoses difficult problems and recommends repairs.
  • Ensures work completed on a machine is to an appropriate standard before releasing equipment back to operation

Education and Experience

  • Vocational Training Certificate or Engineer degree in Mechanics (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working as mobile equipment technician
  • Demonstrated technical skill on equipment maintenance ( Mechanic, Hydraulics)
  • Able to read diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, and reference manual
  • Considerable knowledge of supervisory and leadership techniques
  • Able to monitor and evaluate problems and organizational performance in order to assess efficiency and effectiveness
  • Able to function effectively in a fast paced, team oriented work environment
  • Good communication skill with individuals within and outside MEM department
  • Good level in reading and writing French or Arabic with intermediate level in English ( Oral and writing)


•    Previous experience working with Light and Medium sized Vehicles (Man, Toyota, etc..)
•    Previous experience in maintaining mining highway haul trucks (CAT 793, Komatsu 785)
•    Previous experience in maintaining mining loading equipment (CAT 6060FS, RH340. PC1250, CAT 994H loaders)
•    Previous experience in maintaining mining drill rigs (Sandvic DR580, Bucyrus, Pit Vipers PV235)
•    Previous experience in maintaining Liebherr hydraulic cranes, Terex Frana cranes, Genie lifts and Manitou
•    Demonstrated ability using diagnostic software for troubleshooting
•    Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Windows, Office and CMMS such as JDE
•    Problem solving skills
•    Driver license essential.
