Job Description
Under limited supervision, coordinates the drilling operations to achieve the daily / shift production targets. Direct and control, with minimum supervision, daily and long-term activities for the Drilling equipment activities in the open pit area in order to lead to a safer, more efficient mining operation at Tasiast, achieving budgeted production and cost goals.
The incumbent will do Site induction + HSE Package Mandatory training + HR onboarding (Internal Rule, Code of Conduct…)
Job Responsibilities
Includes but not limited to:
- Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every mine worker under or assigned to his supervision.
- Monitors and controls the daily activities of drilling employees; responsible for ensuring a safe and efficient operation of equipment operations.
- Assigns the equipment operators to their tasks/jobs to permit a timely shift start of the crew and maximise shift mine production.
- Report on all daily, weekly, monthly activities for drilling team.
- Attend all meetings required by Senior Drill Supervisor and D&B Superintendent. Report on all aspects of drilling activities. Report on non-compliances, investigate and complete solutions to repair.
- Organise clean ups with clean up supervisor, monitor and sign off on completion.
- When required supervise clean-up crew especially on NS.
- Good communications with QAQC team to ensure patterns are completed timely and in full.
- Supervise QAQC team on NS.
- Maintains shift contact with Dispatch, Geology and D&B Engineering personnel to ensure drilling equipment is drilling to the correct RL at the correct distances in the correct locations.
- When required, control the RDT Crew, Bit Sharpening Crew and RDT shop area. This responsibility requires supply of RDT (new or rebuilt) to all drill rigs, rebuilding tools to ensure maximum life, and completion of all tracking documents.
- Coordinates with blasting personnel for the timely moving of drilling equipment to safe locations for daily blasting requirements.
- Coordinates the shift hand over field instructions to the oncoming shift to facilitate on going 24 hour operations.
- Conducts crew safety meeting and safety inspections. Inspects and monitors all drilling, and RDT maintenance locations.
- Monitors employees work skills on the equipment and can coordinate with the Training Dept. for a review of an individual operator competence.
- Assist dispatch to ensure equipment is drilling as directed. Ensure equipment goes to the shop facility for planned maintenance when required.
- Conducts first line duty of accident or equipment damage inspection along with Safety and Maintenance personnel. Collect all photographs, required statements and data for incidents, send reports and complete final investigations.
- Ensuring that the organization's Health, Safety & Environmental standards are effectively implemented within the Mining Department in a manner consistent with the cultural norms of Kinross and the location.
- Schedules personnel, equipment, work orders, preventative maintenance, and employee vacations and is responsible for development staff and hourly employees under his direction.
- Responsible to assist in controlling costs, assists in developing departmental procedures and practices, administers discipline, enforcing company policies and procedures.
Education, Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or an advanced certificate or diploma
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in open pit drilling operations
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
- Excellent communication skills, in English, Arabic and French, both oral and written and the proven ability to facilitate group decision making.
- Ability and desire to support and develop employees.
- Reporting and good communications with Senior Drill Supervisor, D&B Engineers and D&B superintendent as required.
- Facilitate JSAs, completion of safe watches,
- Ensure all hazards are dealt with and reported in an appropriate manner.
- Timely and on time completion of employee evaluations on a yearly basis.
