Purpose of the Role

Safely and efficiently operate drill rigs for the purpose of drilling blast holes for optimal mine production and for miscellaneous secondary drilling. Provide support to the Drill & Blasting and Rock Drilling tools sections as and when required.

The incumbent will do Site induction + HSE Package Mandatory training + HR onboarding (Internal Rule, Code of Conduct...)  and is expected to perform duties in accordance with the standard operating
procedures (S.O.P.) and instructions received from supervision.  
This Position is in a dynamic production environment. Discipline, focus and punctuality are essential required traits.

Job Responsibilities

Includes but not limited to:

  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.
  • Participate in shift changeover and pass on relevant information, fill out drilling report sheets accurately (including problems encountered, job condition).
  • Perform risk assessments during duties.
  • Perform pre-start and shut-down checks on equipment, ground conditions, consumables, and drill plans
  • Visually inspect high walls and benches for ground stability and other hazards and report problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Inspect and maintain drill s mechanisms, lubricant systems and fluid levels.
  • Safely Move drills as needed to designated locations within quarry and safely maneuver into position to drill blast holes.
  • Set up, adjust and calibrate machines and equipment
  • Complete drilling reports as required.
  •  Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance.
  • Maintain bits, hammers and steel tubes and can change steels as needed.
  • Assist RDT and Blast Crew when required.
  • Coordinate with designated Quality control technicians or drill pattern coordinators to ensure all Drill standards are followed.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self or others.

Education, Experience and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of production drilling experience.
  • Ability to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  •  Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to gain and have competence on Water truck operations to supply drill rigs.
  • Ability to lift up to 20Kg
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
