Job Description

Reporting to Plant Metallurgist, the role is to provide technical and operational support to the plant operations team to ensure that all metallurgical parameters and control strategies in the process plant are achieving design parameters with particular emphasis on safety and environment, productivity, quality and cost.


 

Job Responsibilities

1. To provide technical support to plant operation team
• Work with plant operation team in shift basis
• Ensure all metallurgical parameters meet the set point or approved daily plant parameters
• Implementing and applying thought solutions to achieve and exceed plant KPI’s of safety, milling rate, throughput, recovery, efficiency and costs
• Assist in troubleshooting crushing, milling, gravity, leaching, thickening problems when required in the shifts

 

2. To oversee activities related to a system, program, or process related to metallurgy
• Ensure shift plant sampling done as per the schedule.
• Ensure metallurgy samples are delivered in a timely manner to assay laboratory and non-routine samples are submitted according to procedure.
• Ensure recording and reporting of plant operational parameter performed accurately and timely manner.
• Conduct inspection and calibration of metallurgical instrumentation in the plant, such as CN analyzer, pH meter, Marcy scale, etc.
• Investigates, researches, and analyzes information and issues related to metallurgy
• To perform any other task as instructed by Plant or Senior Metallurgist


3. To optimize process plant performance
• Conduct monitoring, sampling, test work and process auditing programs. Report findings in an accurate and timely manner.
• Investigates and implements opportunities to increase competitive advantages and align them with the organization’s overall strategy

Education ; Experience and Skills

• Master /engineering degree in Metallurgical or Chemical engineering
• Excellent communication skills in English 
• Additional specialized education of up to 4 years
• Formal professional or technical designation in appropriate area of expertise
• 1 - 2 years of related work experience
• Sound understanding of area of expertise

• In-depth understanding of Kinross’ processes a definite asset
• Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
• Ability to learn quickly
• Ability to function within the  physical qualifications required
• Familiarity with industry standard wet and fire assay analytical methods and sample preparation
