Job Description
The MEM Welder 3G is reporting to MEM Welding Supervisor within the MEM department and is responsible for applying various welding techniques to cut, join, fabricate and repair metal or other materials in support of heavy equipment repairs and services. Organizes fabrication projects from blueprints, sketches, working drawings, and/or verbal instructions.
This is an experienced level. The employee uses considerable independent judgment in making decisions without the availability of supervision.
Job Responsibilities
Includes but not limited to:
• The Welder will be responsible for providing support to the Mobile Maintenance team by providing efficient, reliable and safe welding repairs while ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory procedures and acts
• Reading and interpreting Scope of works and welding process specifications to proceed with repairs and fabrication jobs
• Perform preventative, predictive & breakdown maintenance associated with operations equipment including, but not limited to, large scale Bulldozers and support equipment, Cat Shovels & Drills and Cat Haul Trucks.
• Operating manual or semi-automatic flame cutting, brazing and soldering equipment
• Performing structural welding repairs to mining equipment and parts
• Operate a wide variety of tools related to the welding process (i.e. sanders, grinders, drill press, saw, etc.)as needed
• Designing and fabricating metal/components as required
• Properly follow Company’s policies and the Occupational Health & Safety Regulations for safe working procedures and environment
• Experience in portable line boring preferred
• Good communication skill with individuals within and outside MEM department
• Ensure all welding tasks performed are within the compliance of Kinross safe operating procedures, standard job guidelines and if not, a comprehensive job safety analysis is performed
• Provide a safe, efficient and effective work place.

Education and Experience
• Vocational Training Certificate in Welding or Metallic Fabrication (BTS level or equivalent cumulated experience and education)
• One to two years’ experience working as Welder or Boilermaker with 3 years in Mining, Earthwork or similar work environment advantage. Mechanical repair experience in the mining industry is preferred.
• Valid 3G minimum certification
• Read and write French or Arabic
• Ability to read and draw blueprints and use technical reference manuals
• Reading and interpreting Scope of works and welding process specifications
• Ability to read and accurately use measuring tools including tape measure, caliper, micrometer in both imperial (inch) and metric
• Ability to perform welding and fabrication tasks using MIG, TIG and plasma ARC welding techniques
• Ability to perform line boring tasks considered asset
• Able to function effectively in a fast paced, team oriented work environment
• Knowledge and experience operating various welding equipment for positioning purposes
• Mining experience considered asset
Desirable Skill, Knowledge, Training, and Experience:
• Caterpillar Experience: CAT 6060 Bucyrus 340 Wheel Loader Buckets: 994 and 988, Wheel Dozer Blades:854 and 834, Motor Grader Blades: 24M and 16M, Komatsu 1250
• Problem solving skills
• Driver license essential preferred.
