The Tasiast mine is an open-pit operation in northwestern Mauritania located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored. The mine is proceeding with an expansion that is expected to increase production and lower operating costs. Purpose of the Role

 

The MEM Senior Reliability Engineer, reporting to the Planning and Reliability Superintendent, is responsible for the implementation of reliability strategy and leading a team of approximately 10 engineers, inspectors and dispatchers within the MEM Department.  The incumbent will be expected to be able to articulate and implement the reliability strategy by combining their technical and analytical skills with leadership capabilities.

2. Responsible to

  • Manage and oversee the activities of the reliability group, made up of Reliability Engineers, Inspectors and Dispatcher / Analysts
  • Lead and support investigations into equipment failures and performance
  • Manage the continuous review of equipment performance, regularly reviewing and updating equipment strategies (Inspection, PM, PCR)
  • Oversee and refine the QAQC Inspection program, ensuring work identification is value add and executed to an appropriate standard.
  • Implement sustainable condition based strategies, in collaboration with shop teams aimed at preempting failures and extending component life.  Develop processes where data collected as part of condition based strategies are tracked and acted on in a timely manner
  • Develop and implement machine health monitoring processes in collaboration with dispatch and workshop teams.
  • Analyze the history of equipment failures, applying modelling techniques to characterize failure behavior over time
  • Establish trends and provide feedback to maintenance and operations leadership about how actual performance compares to target and support management decisions related to equipment maintenance
  • Identify and set priorities on opportunities for reliability improvement by mining information using reliability databases
  • Statistically analyze equipment and performance to assess reliability, maintainability, and availability in order to develop reliability improvement initiatives
  • Provide training and facilitation on root cause failure analysis (RCA), failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) with maintenance and operations personnel
  • Oversee and maintain the equipment replacement strategy by maintaining up to date TCO models for productive equipment.  Advise on equipment selection as required.
  • Cultivate productive partnerships with key vendors/OEM’s that drive improvement in equipment
  • Oversee warranty process, ensuring claims are logged and addressed in a timely manner
  • Maintain and validate downtime reporting databases and KPI’s
  • Drive continuous improvement in the maintenance division and help foster the culture to ensure its longevity
  • Actively participate in coaching staff and planning developmental activities as required

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Engineering Degree (Mechanical) or equivalent work experience in a reliability role required
  • International experience in a mining environment necessary.  Minimum of eight (8) years working in a reliability engineering / operational role in mobile maintenance.
  • Experience in a mining environment working with mobile equipment (trucks, drills, shovels, wheel loaders, dozers, graders, etc…).
  • Excellent leadership, people, and communication skills to act as a “Change Agent” required. 
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of reliability and improvement concepts: DMAIC, RCA, FMEA, RCM, LEAN preferred
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Condition Monitoring techniques such as: oil and vibration analysis, thermography and/or ultrasonic emissions preferred
  • Demonstrated safety leadership capability for both self and team required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications Word, Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint and Project required
  • Fluent English a must, French and or Arabic an advantage
  • Previous work experience in Arabic-speaking countries is considered an asset
     

Additional Skills and Experience

 

  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) preferred
  • Previous experience in maintaining mining highway haul trucks (CAT 793, Komatsu 785)
  • Previous experience in maintaining mining loading equipment (CAT 6060FS, RH340. PC1250, CAT 994H loaders)
  • Previous experience in maintaining mining drill rigs (CAT MD6250, Sandvik DR580, Bucyrus, Pit Vipers PV235)
  • Experience in knowledge transfer or employee/team training is an asset.
  • Driver license.
