Job Description
The MEM Mechanic is reporting to Mobile Equipment Maintenance Supervisor within the MEM department and is accountable for the safe, efficient, accurate and cost effective mechanical maintenance of the mobile equipment fleet at Kinross Gold – Tasiast Mine. The incumbent will provide technical ability and experience to maintain heavy diesel equipment such as shovels, loaders, graders, dozers, haul trucks, service vehicles and other related equipment by using hand tools, power tools, and other diagnostic equipment. Field-test equipment to evaluate performance. The MEM Mechanic is expected to be able to diagnose and troubleshoot issues and perform remove and install tasks under limited to no supervision.
Key Areas of Responsibility and Duties
Includes but not limited to:
• Takes an active role in hazard identification and risk management to provide a safe and effective work place
• Gather technical information as needed to perform the job at hand. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair the electrical and hydraulic systems, the diesel engines, drive trains, and track equipment undercarriages of both mobile and stationary equipment. Utilize specialized testing equipment and electric systems knowledge to perform the aforementioned tasks.
• Operate and inspect equipment to diagnose problems and/or defects and to verify repairs were successful. Ensure proper disposal of waste materials.
• Service, repair and replace damaged or worn parts and components on equipment
• Test repaired equipment for performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer’ specification
• Record all work on JDE Work Orders, provide reliable and accurate data on Work Orders such as actual time worked, Failure Analysis information, dates, signatures, findings, reported data etc.
• Perform equipment walk around and does preventative maintenance checks and inspections on all assigned equipment. Report findings to supervisor and takes appropriate action.
• Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance on equipment
• Works as part of a team, assisting others with difficult tasks and providing mentoring when relevant
• Operates and maintains electric and air hand powered tools
• Reads and interprets schematics, engineering drawings, operating manual and parts manual
• Uses and reads various measuring tools including micrometers, calipers and torque wrenches
• Provide the required reports as requested by your supervisor.
• Participate in the technical and performance evaluation of your trainees, and provide constructive feedback to improve their competency
• Ensure all maintenance tasks performed are within the compliance of Kinross safe operating procedures, standard job guidelines and if not, a comprehensive job safety analysis is performed
• Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements
This is the entry level. The employee will perform many of the above listed duties and responsibilities, may have independence on some duties while close supervision on others. The employee works in a learning capacity performing a range of maintenance duties while receiving close supervision
Mandatory Requirements for this position:
• Vocational Training Diploma in Mechanics (BTS level or equivalent cumulated work experience)
• At least two years of work experience solely in an industrial (mining) environment
• Considerable knowledge of tools and equipment needed for the overhaul, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of mining mobile equipment
• Further detail on competencies required are listed in Appendices 1.1-1.3 and 2.3. Given the large number of fleets covered in Appendix 2.3, it is expected a subset of it related to specific fleets will be covered by the candidate
• Working knowledge of manuals and diagnostic tools.
• Ability to perform accurate measurement and to complete basic calculation
• Good communication skill with individuals within and outside MEM department
Desirable Skill, Knowledge, Training, and Experience:
• Previous experience in maintaining mining loading and hauling equipment (CAT 6060FS, RH340. PC1250, CAT 994H loaders, CAT 793, Komatsu 785)
• Previous experience in maintaining mining drill rigs (Sandvic DR580, Bucyrus, Pit Vipers PV235)
• Previous experience in maintaining Liebherr hydraulic cranes, Terex Frana cranes or similar lifting equipment
• Demonstrated ability using diagnostic software for troubleshooting
• Problem solving skills
• Previous experience in operating Genie Lift, IT…
• Demonstrated skill in rigging and lifting
• Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Windows and Office
• An understanding of A/C and hydraulic troubleshooting/repairing in addition to understanding of VIMS, SIS, and ET systems.
• Driver license essential.
