Purpose of the Role

The Exploration Project Geologist is a key member of the exploration team, responsible for conducting geological studies and assessments to support exploration projects. Reporting to the Exploration Operations Manager, this role plays a pivotal role in data collection, interpretation, and the identification of potential mineral deposits. The Exploration Project Geologist is essential in guiding drilling activities, providing critical insights to advance exploration efforts, and fostering the personal development of the competencies of all the geologists in their team.

Location: On-site, SENISA, Mauritania (Rotation Schedule)
 

Key Areas of Responsibility and Duties

Includes but not limited to:
•    Geological Assessments: Conduct geological assessments of exploration project sites to identify mineralization potential. Analyze geological data, including rock samples, core samples, and geophysical data, to make informed recommendations.
•    Data Collection: Collect and manage geological data through fieldwork, sampling, and laboratory analysis. Maintain accurate and organized geological databases.
•    Drilling Program Support: Collaborate with drilling teams to plan and supervise drilling activities. Ensure drilling programs align with geological objectives and safety standards.
•    Mineralization Identification: Identify and classify mineral deposits based on geological observations and analysis. Assist in estimating mineral resources and reserves.
•    Technical Reporting: Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing geological findings and exploration progress. Contribute to the development of exploration reports for internal and external stakeholders.
•    Mapping and Modeling: Create geological maps and 3D models to visualize geological structures and mineralization patterns. Use geological modeling software for accurate resource estimation.
•    Safety and Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations during fieldwork and exploration activities. Promote safe practices within the exploration team.
•    Team Development: Foster the personal development of competencies within the geology team, including team members and technicians from ANARPAM.
•    Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including geophysicists, geochemists, and engineers, to achieve exploration goals. Communicate findings and recommendations effectively within the team.

•    Participate in developing policies and procedures relating to safety, the environment and individual, and Exploration Department development. 
•    Ensure that direct reports and respective work areas are in compliance with Health and Safety policies and regulations.
•    Ensure direct reports have the necessary training, skills, knowledge, and tools to do their jobs safely. Provide support to all areas on issues that jointly involve production and safety. 
•    Observe operations to detect the violation of safety regulations and compiles safety and production records. 
•    Assist in accident and incident investigations and ensures that recommendations are implemented by agreed upon dates.

    •    Work is performed under limited direction according to established methodologies and processes.
•    Problem resolution is within established guidelines and procedures, requiring the use of judgement to determine which of many methods are applicable in any given situation.

•    Ensure projects in the unit or area are completed on-time, on-budget, and to required standards. Initiates, implements, evaluates, and modifies own projects and plans in response to needs. Supervises and directs the work of a support or technical work unit.

Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements

Mandatory skills and requirements for this position:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Geology with at least 7years of relevant work experience in Exploration Geology.
•    Strong interpersonal and mentoring skill is required. Well-developed technical report writing and presentation skills. Very strong communications skills. Team player with a strong inclination towards developing co-operative solutions
•    Strong database management skills, full understanding of QA/QC protocols and procedures that meet industry standards.
•    Strong Knowledge of drilling techniques and ability to design efficiently a drilling program.
•    Strong ability to compile and interpret large database set, including geological, geochemistry and geophysical data.
•    Proficiency with exploration 3D software is desirable. Ability to construct geological model, structural model, based section and level plan interpretation.
•    Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and French.


Desirable Skill, Knowledge, Training, and Experience:
•    A master’s degree in Geology or related field is preferred
•    Previous leadership experience and management is an asset.
•    Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
•    A thorough understanding of the efficient use of geologic instruments, techniques, and interpretation of data.
•    Micromine, Leapfrog, and MapInfo are preferred, as well as various database programs including AcQuire Software.
