Job Description
The primary purpose of the Fire Fighter is to respond to a wide variety of calls, conduct physical firefighting work during fires of any kind, and perform rescues and handling Hazmat Incidents. It includes the handling of people, machinery and all equipment, as well as safety on scene. Performing maintenance on equipment, vehicles, as well as station maintenance is also required. The fire fighter shall also undergo, and later conduct training involving newest technology in medical / paramedical field, fire prevention, fire extinguishing and rescue technique as well as Hazardous materials.
Key Areas of Responsibility and Duties
Includes but not limited to
• Drive fire trucks and other emergency vehicles as assigned to put out fires using water hoses, fire extinguishers, and pumps
• Treat sick or injured people at an incident scene
• Ensure accurate communication is always maintained
• Clean and maintain equipment, vehicles and fire station as assigned
• Conduct fire and rescue drills and physical fitness training
• Respond to Hazardous Material incidents
• Inspection, servicing and recharging of fire extinguishers.
• Perform rescues in confined spaces and elevate heights with specialized rescue equipment
• Promote fire safety via talks, advice, fire safety inspections and training sessions
• Inspect and enforce fire safety standards in Tasiast operational areas
• Perform practice drills individually and in a team
• Checking and maintaining vehicles, equipment, fire station and fire suppression equipment
• Work within the HSE Department and alongside other site personnel to ensure emergency preparedness systems and equipment will function as required
Qualifications & Skill Requirements
Mandatory Requirements for this position:
• High School level with certified military training preferable
• Previous experience as firefighter is mandatory
• Certificate on first aid training is an asset
• Excellent physical fitness is mandatory
• A valid driver’s license.
• Must be between the ages of 20 to 30 years
• Willingness to participate in continuous training
• Ability to work under stressful conditions and tight timeframes
• Ability to work with little or no supervision and take charge when needed
• Ability to perform complex tasks under life-threatening conditions
• Ability to deal with critically injured/ill people
• Ability to perform tasks requiring long periods of intense concentration
• Ability to assess situations and make clear decisions under pressure in extreme environmental conditions
