Tasiast Mine
The Tasiast mine is an open-pit operation in northwestern Mauritania located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored. The mine is proceeding with an expansion that is expected to increase production and lower operating costs. Tasiast is a cornerstone asset in Kinross’ portfolio, with a long mine life a large mineral reserve base.
As one of the largest private employers in Mauritania, Tasiast invests heavily in training and career development opportunities and has many important programs in place to support its host communities. For example, since 2014, Tasiast’s mobile clinic, which provides free medical support to isolated communities, has provided over 32,000 consultations.
Job Description
Reporting to and working back-to-back with the Supply Chain Manager, the Deputy Supply Chain Manager will be accountable for end-to-end Supply Chain Management (SCM) functions, including Sourcing, Contracting, Procurement, Inventory, Logistics, Transportation, Warehousing, Local Content, and Materials Management. Ensures effective, ethical, and compliant operations that drive value, efficiency, and risk reduction across the organization.
Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the development and execution of SCM strategies, policies, and governance frameworks to ensure alignment with corporate objectives, compliance with statutory requirements, and mitigation of operational and financial risks.
- Champion continuous improvement, standardization, and digital transformation across supply chain processes to enhance transparency, performance, and value delivery.
- Define and monitor performance metrics, systems, and controls to assess and improve functional performance and achieve strategic targets.
Procurement & Contract Management
- Oversee all procurement activities, including sourcing, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and contract award, ensuring fairness, transparency, and value for money.
- Govern the consistent application of procurement policies and procedures to ensure robust, auditable, and compliant processes.
- Manage key commercial models (e.g., TCO, NPV, should-cost) to support data-driven sourcing decisions and optimize supplier performance.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure efficient demand planning, inventory management, order fulfillment, and logistics operations that meet internal customer requirements and minimize supply disruptions.
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve supply issues, improve forecasting, and maintain effective communication and integration across the organization.
- Advance local content initiatives and community engagement by identifying and developing local sourcing opportunities.
Supplier & Risk Management
- Execute supplier relationship management (SRM) processes, including performance monitoring, risk assessment, and corrective action planning.
- Implement policy and process governance to identify, evaluate, and mitigate supply chain and vendor risks while ensuring compliance and business continuity.
- Foster strategic partnerships with key suppliers to drive innovation, reliability, and continuous improvement.
People & Performance Development
- Develop and mentor supply chain teams, promoting accountability, capability growth, and a culture of operational excellence.
- Provide regular reporting and performance updates to management and represent SCM in site coordination forums.

Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
- Five (5+) years of related experience with previous experience in mining
- Five (5+) years of management experience – leading teams and having direct reports
- Additional formal professional designation; previous training and strong knowledge of sourcing and procurement and contract formation, development and execution
- Demonstration of organization maturity through experience at a major mining company
- Must demonstrate significant knowledge of all of the disciplines referenced in this job profile; specifically West Africa procurement, strategic sourcing and category management understanding
- Supply Chain department head experience at a senior level in a mineral industry or oil and gas operations is essential
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Fluency in the English language
- Knowledge of French and Arabic an asset
