Tasiast
The Tasiast mine is an open-pit operation in northwestern Mauritania located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored. The mine is proceeding with an expansion that is expected to increase production and lower operating costs. Tasiast is a cornerstone asset in Kinross’ portfolio, with a long mine life a large mineral reserve base.
As one of the largest private employers in Mauritania, Tasiast invests heavily in training and career development opportunities and has many important programs in place to support its host communities. For example, since 2014, Tasiast’s mobile clinic, which provides free medical support to isolated communities, has provided over 32,000 consultations.
Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Support Services Manager, the Camp Manager is responsible for the effective management of the Tasiast TTV camp. Based at Kinross’ Tasiast Mine Site, the Camp Manager is responsible for the oversight of all camp services, including housing, catering, cleaning, laundry, and other camp administration activities. Manages all TMLSA employees in the TTV camp and oversees all business partners and their employees, such as catering, cleaning, laundry and other ancillary services.
Job Responsibilities
Including, but not limited to:
- Responsible for the complete management of all aspects of TTV camp services for the Tasiast Mine Site, with the camp capacity of 4000-5000 people
- Responsible for Camp Operations management, including overseeing problem solving of routine and complex issues
- Responsible for the overall operation and supervision of field camp, housing and catering services, including management of the business partners providing catering, cleaning, laundry and other services
- Oversees the planning, organizing, marketing, mobilizing and implementing company procedures as they relate to camp activities
- Maintains communication with all site stakeholders and management, ensuring all camp services are available at all times
- Managing all camp inventory; oversees the ordering of supplies including food, fuel and equipment as necessary for camp operation
- Works with site Health and Safety group to ensure proper procedures are being established and adhered to from a Camp perspective
- Ensures accommodations and service facilities are well maintained and meet all relevant company and international standards to the extent possible
- Responsible for monitoring of camp premises, planning and carrying out preventive maintenance periodically to ensure that the company’s health and safety policies are adhered too and housekeeping and hygiene highest standards are met to create a safe and healthy environment
- Manages all on site recreation facilities
- Ensures food services meet health, hygiene and quality standards and also meet employees´ needs and satisfaction
- Develops the Camp budget and responsible for the complete cost control related
- Manages departmental assets and expenditures efficiently
- Through the team of superintendents and supervisors manages all staff to ensure acceptable performance of assigned job duties
- Ensures training and development of staff about customer service and quality management
- Overall responsible for the performance management, development and review of the camp employees
- Ensures that work is performed in an efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible manner
Qualifications and Skills
- University degree in an appropriate field
- Additional applicable educational or technical training
- Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions required
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to work with others in a diverse team environment
- Extensive experience in operation & maintenance of large scale camps (>2,000 personnel) in very remote areas
- Ability to open new business lines with new clients in order to fulfill the capacity of a 4000 – 5000 person camp
- Solid background in management of catering, housekeeping, maintenance and administration of camps
- Excellent knowledge of building servicing & maintenance with experience in, but not limited too; maintaining appropriate systems records and documentation associated with camp management; logistic management; and financial control and planning
- Capacity to integrate within an international and national diverse workforce
- Ability to lead and train diverse international and national staff
- Capacity to meet deadlines often under pressure and adverse conditions
- Ability to organize and motivate team members
- Strong management, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- French and Arabic language skills are an asset
