Job Description

As a Blasting technician, you will directly assist in preparation loading and detonation of open pit blasts to meet the established production requirements while ensuring highest explosives safety standards and compliance to procedures on the job.

Job Responsibilities

  • While carrying out daily responsibilities safety and compliance to SOP must be the first priority.
  • Ensure emergency procedures are understood and carried per site requirements
  • Participate in blasting crew meetings to coordinate responsibilities and address safety protocols.
  • Ensure each blast area is correctly prepared and controlled during all loading and blasting activities, in accordance to best in class standards and site procedures.
  • Dipping, priming, loading, stemming, and tie-in of blast patterns to achieve daily loading and blasting objectives safely and efficiently
  • Ensure safe use, storage, security, transport, and handling of explosives are per company procedures
  • Operate Auxiliary equipment, including stemming loaders and other mining machinery to support blasting activities
  • Work collaboratively with the entire blasting team, QA/QC and other mine operations teams to meet daily operational targets in a safe and cost-effective manners
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and perform physically strenuous work on a daily basis, including lifting up to 20kg of product and material, pulling hoses, stooping, bending, climbing, shoveling.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum High school Level
  • 2-5 years’ experience in similar position in Mining or large scale modern industrial environment
  • Read, write and count in French/English or Arabic.
  • Must have the literacy required to be trained, and eventually certified for explosives handling
  • Ability to perform arithmetic computations at fast pace
