Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Electrical Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for assembling, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and mining equipment in both surface and underground environments. Depending on role level, responsibilities may include supervision of electrical personnel, oversight of maintenance programs, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, safety standards, and electrical codes while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

•    Moving, hauling, and lifting equipment as required by the repair or maintenance being performed.
•    Learn to order parts, and specify certain parts when ordering, and complete appropriate paperwork.
•    Train for higher levels of responsibility.
•    Responsible to manage the RMGC Environmental Health and Safety Management system in his/her areas of responsibility.
•    Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct. 
•    Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
•    Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
•    Works without risk or harm to self and others. 
•    Punctuality and regular attendance required.
•    Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
•    Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
•    Expert and conversant with latest version of NFPA 70 E. 
•    Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair underground electrical systems including power distribution, substations, medium and high voltage feeder protection relays motors, MCCs, mobile equipment, communication systems, Allen Bradley Control Logix PLCs, VFD configuration, Soft Starter configuration and Testing, 3 Phase Starter Panels, Sump pumps, ventilation fans, lighting, ground fault monitors, terminator boxes, relays, 3 Phase 480volt contactors, anemometers, spectrum analyzers, level indicator transmitters, flow meter transmitters, thyristor testing, current injection testers, voltage and current data loggers.
•    Perform diagnostic testing and adjust/replace defective components as needed including thermography.
•    Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance.
•    Install electrical apparatus, cables, and control devices including RFID tracking equipment.
•    Leaky Feeder installation and repair including Amplifiers.
•    Troubleshoot Bolters, Jumbos, Simbas, U8, Spray Mech, Cubex and other Core Drill Rigs.
•    Fabricate electrical panels and assist in new equipment installations according to Article 110 and 30 CFR Subpart K.
•    Size Starter and Overload Protection for Motors per Article 430 and 30 CFR Subpart K.
•    Complete all Grounding requirements per Article 250 and 30 CFR Subpart K.
•    Hang and secure Medium Voltage and High Voltage heavy‑gauge cables (including 4/0 overhead cable).
•    Repair and Splice Medium and High Voltage Cable. 
•    Experience with sizing Conductors and OCPD per Tables in NEC. 
•    Complete Stress Cone Terminations. 
•    Perform and document preventive maintenance according to established schedules.
•    Ensure availability and serviceability of tools, parts, and spares.

Education and Experience

•    Knowledge of electronics and electrical power.
•    Be constantly aware of personal safety.   The incumbent must understand what actions can lead to dangerous reactions and know the proper steps to take in order to perform each job safely.
•    Capable of lifting and hauling equipment necessary to complete each job.
•    Be able to accurately complete appropriate paperwork associated with ordering parts.  
•    Required: High school diploma or equivalent; electrical trade certification.
•    Preferred: College diploma, technical school, or related engineering/electrical education.
•    Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in Industrial Electrical Maintenance.
•    Underground mining electrical experience strongly preferred.
•    Supervisory experience required for Foreman roles.
•    Work will be performed both on surface and underground in a general industrial environment.   Appropriate PPE must be worn at all times.
•    Work extended hours, overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating schedules.
•    Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills. 
•    Train and mentor apprentices and new employees.
•    Support other departments as required.
•    General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
•    Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. 
•    Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
•    Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team. 
•    Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
•    Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis. 
•    Must meet pre‑employment requirements (drug test, background check, physical).
•    Requires valid driver’s license.
•    NFPA70E certification may be required.
•    MSHA certification required for Foreman‑level positions.
•    Must be able to meet “Authorized User” requirements for High Risk Activities, including but not limited to Fall Protection and Confined Space, as required by job duties, departments and Round Mountain Gold Corporation’s Permit to Work policies.

Reports to the Electrical Supervisor.
