Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Job Summary
Under supervision of the metallurgist, the metallurgical technician is responsible for carrying out necessary testing for quality control and process improvements including for the mill and heap leach facilities. They also provide analytical data and maintain equipment for the metallurgical department to ensure desired KPIs are achieved in the plant. The incumbent must possess good communication skills, be self-motivated, organized, and consistently align daily activities with Kinross values. This is a temporary, Kinross six-month assignment. The schedule for this position is seven days on, seven days off.
Essential Functions
1. Assist in metallurgical studies by executing sampling plans and preparing samples both in a lab and process plant setting for met accounting, testing, and projects as needed
2. Perform sample preparation including drying, crushing, splitting, pressing, and screening.
3. Perform routine housekeeping and preventative maintenance on laboratory and preparation equipment.
4. Maintain laboratory and analytical equipment used in the process facility
5. Identify and report analytical discrepancies or equipment malfunctions.
6. Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and safe work practices.
7. Complete required training, task certifications, and written assessments.
8. Work independently with limited supervision while maintaining punctual attendance and productivity standards.
9. Adhere to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in processing facilities.
10. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
1. High school diploma or GED required.
2. Experience either in assay or metallurgical laboratory preferred.
3. Experience with basic computer applications including Microsoft Office preferred.
4. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required.
5. Ability to collect and prepare samples for assay submittal, and accurately report results required.
6. General understanding of mining and processing operations preferred.
7. Demonstrated ability to perform essential functions of the position required.
8. Basic understanding of laboratory safety procedures and chemical handling.
9. Ability to follow detailed written procedures and standardized methods required.
10. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a repetitive basis required.
11. Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work full-time in the United States.
12. Valid driver’s license required.
