Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations. 

The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.

Job Description

Under the direction of a Survey Lead person or Technical Services Supervisor, this person performs mine surveying in both open pit a well as underground tasks while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

1.    They must Know the following in an efficient manner:
a.    Shot pattern layout
b.    Ore control layout and dig plans
c.    The mine coordinate system
d.    RMGC’s GPS system at a basic level
e.    Conventional total stations
f.    Conventional and laser levels
g.    AutoCAD Civil 3D at a basic level
h.    Pit driving in all weather conditions
i.    Most importantly of all how to work safely in a mining atmosphere

Education and Experience

1.    Five Years underground experience a plus.  
2.    Must have good mathematical skills and a working knowledge of basic trigonometry and geometry.
3.    Must have the ability to keep and maintain accurate records, a computer background is helpful.  
4.    This position requires extensive time in the production areas in all weather conditions.  
5.    Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. over blasted muck for several hours at a time.  
6.    Must be willing to work overtime and weekends.  
7.    This person should be a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.  
8.    Must get along well with others.
9.    Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently.
10.    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
11.    Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
12.    Consistently seeking opportunities to improve processes, systems and tools.
13.    General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions.
14.    Knowledge and experience in developing policies and procedures relating to safety, the environment and individual and organizational development.
15.    Proven leadership skills.
16.    Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills. 
17.    General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
18.    Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
19.    Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
20.    Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis. 
21.    Requires valid driver’s license.
