Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Job Description
Under the general direction of the Mine Superintendent, will keep the operations department functioning in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining production goals. Build strong culture within department aligning with site and company goals.
Job Responsibilities
1. Implementation of the current mine plan.
2. Ensure the safety of all personnel.
3. Provide training to all personnel in a fair and consistent manner.
4. Oversee the recruitment of new personnel.
5. Understand and continuously monitor schedules and priorities to maximize efficiency of the equipment.
6. Thorough understanding of department specific mining practices and procedures.
7. The ability to effectively manage the development of all staff members.
8. Develop crew skills to levels of maximum efficiency and safety.
9. Assign resources to tasks as per the plan and as required for non-planned activities.
10. Constantly monitor crew activities to ensure efficient, safe operations and make recommendations for revised procedures when problems are encountered.
11. Ensure consistency in the application of company policies and progressions.
Education and Experience
1. Strong understanding of mine planning function with the ability to adapt to daily changes in the mine plan.
2. Must be able to deal with unexpected mine plan changes.
3. Must work closely with the Human Resources Department to maintain adequate crew levels.
4. Must work closely with the Human Resources Department to maintain consistency in personal management.
5. Strong technical knowledge of all pit equipment.
6. 15 years mining experience.
7. 10 years hands-on heavy equipment experience.
8. 5 years mining supervisory experience.
9. Requires valid driver’s license.
Reporting Relationships
• Provides work direction to the operations team.
• Typically reports into the Mine Superintendent.
