Job Description

Develop and administer the fire protection and prevention systems at site to reduce/eliminate loss and fire related incidents, within the overall company guidelines, federal and local regulations. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws as well as with fire programs and requirements. This position is over Kinross Nevada (Round Mountain & Bald Mountain).

Job Responsibilities

1.    Develop and administer a fire safety management system and monitor ongoing compliance.
2.    Be able to evaluate current fire prevention systems to ensure adequacy.
3.    The ability to review past fire related incidents with a focus on improvement to existing practices and capabilities. 
4.    Strong focus on reducing the need for administrative controls, ensuring a higher level of control exists throughout the asset utilizing engineering, elimination or substitution where applicable.
5.    Manage fire incident investigation reports, statistical analysis, property damage loss, and associated costs.
6.    Maintain all required fire related records, and files. Participate and follow up with audits.
7.    Continuously monitor and adjust, as required, policies and procedures regarding fire prevention and mitigation response, and other related areas.
8.    Ensure compliance with all fire required training for employees and contractors.
9.    Interface with federal, state, local, and company fire system personnel to ensure compliance with regulatory laws and current best practices.
10.    Advise management on all governmental regulations that pertain to fire protection and recommend necessary actions to obtain compliance.
11.    Ability to gain any applicable fire protection system certifications as needed. 
12.    Oversee all maintenance of fire protections systems.
13.    Contribute to the budgeting process related to fire protection programs.
14.    Employees are expected to be punctual, maintain regular attendance, and follow all company policies, including safety, confidentiality, and environmental standards.
15.    Employees must consistently meet performance expectations, use sound judgment, and work safely without risk to themselves or others.
16.    Ability to work with site management team to address Marsh recommendations.
17.    Expectation is at least 80% of the time spent in the field assessing and addressing fire prevention and protection.
18.    Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
19.    Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

1.    High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations and keep records accurately.
2.    Three years’ experience in repairing and maintaining fire protection equipment preferably within the mining industry.
3.    Knowledge of or ability to obtain knowledge of State of Nevada fire protection regulations and certifications.
4.    A minimum of two years’ experience as a supervisor or relief supervisor.
5.    Experience with computerized maintenance systems. Preferably with JDE v9.0 or later.
6.    Demonstrated experience managing work teams to achieve defined objectives.
7.    Demonstrated commitment to safety and the environment.
8.    Thorough understanding of the maintenance requirements and procedures for fire protection equipment is necessary.
9.    Must be able to balance resource allocations with changing priorities, anticipating consequences and risks based on a defined medium- and long-term vision.
10.    Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
11.    Good working knowledge and skill with a PC utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.
12.    Ability to work independently and as a member of the management team.
13.    Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management. 
14.    Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
15.    Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
16.    May work holidays, weekends, and shift work as required.
