Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Job Description
Kinross Round Mountain is at a pivotal moment as exploration heads underground to deliver the future, and you could be at the forefront of it all. As the Exploration Manager, you will be the key role to discover and delineate resources in the Round Mountain district, by leading the team to developing targets, designing programs, and execute early to advanced stage projects, with the ultimate-goal of delivering ounces to sustain long-term production at an operation which has provided high-quality, high-paying jobs to central Nevada for over 45 years.
The role is based at the Round Mountain mine site. located at the base of the towering, Toiyabe and Toquima ranges, a hidden gem in the Basin and Range. The site is centrally located equidistant from Reno, Vegas or Elko. Your work here will have a direct positive impact on a close-knit community that is truly unique and special in the state of Nevada.
Key Responsibilities
• To develop and implement strategies that grow the company’s gold resources and reserves through brownfields exploration.
• To lead, develop and maintain a team of exploration technical professionals sufficiently competent and skilled to further the objectives and strategies set by the site and region.
• Embrace and model company policies and procedures for working safely, environmental stewardship, working with our communities, upholding confidentiality and code of conduct.
• Ensuring collaboration and communication of programs with Greenfields and Mine Geology groups
• Interact with Senior Regional and Corporate Management, Mine General Managers and Projects Management teams to ensure programs align to short-, mid- and long-term Company goals.
• Ensure projects are completed on-time, on-budget, and to required standards while maintaining and improving data quality, security and QA/QC.
• Initiates, implements, evaluates and modifies projects and plans in response to needs.
• Meets or exceeds established performance expectations.
• Performs other related functions as assigned.
Qualifications
• Four-year BSc degree in Geology required. Post-graduate degree (e.g., Masters in Economic Geology) preferred.
• Broad-based experience in Greenfields/Brownfields exploration with 10 years working as a hard-rock geologist in metals exploration. Underground experience strongly preferred.
• Successful background leading diverse teams in minerals exploration.
• Previous success in adding value to the business through technical and economic assessment of early- to advanced-stage exploration targets in brownfields environments.
• Track record of identifying opportunities, securing new projects, negotiating agreements, and designing and implementing exploration programs.
• A successful track record in creative thinking, leading to the development of robust exploration targets.
• Effective communicator and presenter to all levels of stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and also as a member of team.
• Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
