Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Exploration Manager, is responsible for mine geology and/or exploration duties, as required while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
Essential Functions
1. Geologic/structural mapping and sampling.
2. QA/QC tracking and validation.
3. Field supervision of drilling/sampling programs.
4. Logging drill core and cuttings.
5. Geologic/structural modelling and interpretation.
6. Writing periodic reports.
7. Slope monitoring.
8. Data entry and database management.
9. Performs work assignments in a timely manner.
10. Represents the company with contractors.
11. Responsible to manage the RMGC Environmental Health and Safety Management system in his/her areas of responsibility.
12. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
13. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
14. Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
15. Works without risk or harm to self and others.
16. Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by state agency, or must be able to pass driver competency course and exam.
17. Punctuality and regular attendance required.
18. Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
19. Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
1. Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
2. General understanding of mining operations, milling, and maintenance operations.
3. Proficient PC user utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.
4. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
5. Ability to work independently, but also as a member of the management team.
6. Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational, and technical writing skills.
7. Bachelor’s degree in geologic sciences is required.
8. Knowledgeable in geologic skills, such as mineralization environments, rock and alteration characterization, geologic and structural mapping. Experience working on low sulphidation epithermal deposits and in volcanic terranes preferred.
9. General understanding of drilling techniques and equipment.
10. General understanding of geochemistry applied to exploration.
11. Entry level or one to three years of experience in mine and/or exploration geology.
12. Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
13. Requires valid driver’s license.
