Job Description

Work as part of a team to provide complete environmental services for a mining operation and ancillary facilities.  Under the direction of a Sr. Environmental Engineer or Specialist, ensures that sampling, monitoring, inspections, and data management are conducted in accordance with company requirements and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

Primary responsibility for all aspects of environmental sampling and monitoring, including, but not limited to: 
•    Maintain sampling and monitoring databases for water, and other permit requirements to provide data and reports required for permit compliance.
•    Conduct compliance sampling throughout the site operations, including but not limited to, surface water sampling, groundwater sampling, soil sampling and/or other materials as required by regulatory framework. 
•    Perform environmental inspections for regulatory programs as needed 
•    Maintain a competent level of knowledge of environmental permit conditions and environmental regulations applicable to the site.
•    Conduct all activities in accordance with environmental and safety rules and regulations.
•    Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality, and code of conduct. 
•    Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
•    Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
•    Works without risk or harm to self and others. 
•    Punctuality and regular attendance required.
•    Ability to operate forklift and sampling equipment.
•    Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills Requirements

•    Previous experience performing monitoring and sampling preferred.
•    Valid Nevada driver’s license (or ability and intent to obtain). 
•    Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records (required).
•    Moderate degree of mechanical ability and troubleshooting skills (e.g. determine the cause of equipment malfunction and conduct minor repairs using hand tools or items such as battery replacement).
•    Able to spend a significant portion of workday outside in the field in a production environment and work overtime as needed.
•    Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. over short distances.
•    Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills. 
•    General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
•    Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing Microsoft Office 
•    Ability to work independently and as a member of the environmental team. 
•    Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Reporting Relationships

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Principal Environmental Engineer
