Job Description

Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Cook implements the menu, purchases and prepares food and acquires and maintains a ServSafe Certification. Assists with Janitorial duties; meet standards set forth by the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

1.    Heavy mopping, sweeping, dusting, and vacuuming to keep floors clean.
2.    Cooking breakfast, lunch, and preparing snacks. 
3.    Purchases food needed for meals and snacks served on site while following budget requirements and the guidelines established by the Child Care Food Program.
4.    Cleans and maintains kitchen, food service utensils, equipment, and food storage areas to standards mandated by the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, and best practices with regards to food safety and sanitation. 
5.    Purchases food for children’s cooking projects in the classroom. 
6.    Acquire and maintain Servsafe certification. 
7.    Emptying of trash receptacles in kitchen and dining room. 
8.    Assisting in cleaning of the restrooms, and replenishment of paper goods when needed.
9.    Must be aware of all chemicals used and what their purposes are, including what chemicals can and cannot be used in conjunction with each other and on certain surfaces.
10.    Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
11.    Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct. 
12.    Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
13.    Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
14.    Works without risk or harm to self and others. 
15.    Punctuality and regular attendance required.
16.    Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
 

Education and Experience

1. Basic cooking skills plus experience in food service and volume meal preparation preferred. 
2. Must be able to read and follow a recipe. 
3. Must be able to relate well to parents, children and other staff members. 
4. Must communicate effectively and be functionally literate in English. 
5. Must possess organizational skills, time management skills, and the ability to prioritize. 
6. Must possess the ability to keep accurate reports and records. 
7. Must possess the math ability to increase or decrease recipe quantities, including the ability to use decimals and 
    fractions. 
8. Must have reliable transportation which is available for travel during working hours.
