Job Summary

Under the direction of the Operations Director, the Technical Services Manager provides strategic leadership and management of all technical disciplines supporting underground mining, including mine planning, geology, engineering, survey, ventilation, and geotechnical functions. The manager ensures the delivery of safe, cost-effective practices and optimum extraction of resources in alignment with Kinross’s policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Align the technical services department and individual goals with site vision and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and execution of short, medium, and long-term mine plans, budgets, and production strategies to meet business targets.
  • Ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance in mine designs, ventilation models, resource estimations, technical studies, and reporting.
  • Lead the reserve and resource declaration process, from geologic modeling through economic evaluation and determination.
  • Manage the design, construction, and commissioning of mine infrastructures.
  • Lead the business planning process, including operational costs as well as potential capital needs, to create a budget for the site.
  • Coordinate technical services activities to support operational teams and align plans with production and development schedules.
  • Implement and promote continuous improvement initiatives, adopting new technologies and best practices.
  • Mentor, develop, and manage technical staff, including knowledge transfer and performance management.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, recommend promotions and carry out corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate technical reports, forecasts, and presentations for management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and corporate governance standards in all technical service activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline.
  • Advanced qualifications in mine planning, mineral economics, or management preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience in underground mining with at least 5 years in a technical services leadership or management role.
  • Extensive expertise in underground mine planning, geotechnical analysis, geology, budgeting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and team development capabilities.
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong business acumen with experience or education a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the management team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and authorized to work in the US.

Salary Range: $170,000 - $185,000
