Job Summary
The Mine Fixed Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, troubleshooting, and repair of stationary equipment such as crushers, conveyors, pumps, and facility systems, which are critical to uninterrupted mine operations. This role is essential for safety, asset reliability, and production continuity.
Essential Functions
- Conduct routine and preventive maintenance, inspection, and servicing of fixed plant equipment
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues within stationary equipment and process systems.
- Install, remove, and replace equipment components, including valves, expansion joints, piping, and other mechanical assemblies.
- Perform advanced mechanical work such as fabrication, welding, lubrication, and repairs to restore equipment functionality.
- Use technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals to carry out maintenance activities and ensure repair accuracy.
- Maintain accurate work orders, maintenance logs, and reports to track all completed work and recurring issues.
- Support emergency/unscheduled repairs and participate in scheduled shutdowns and major overhauls.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, codes, and company policies—actively contributes to a safety-conscious workplace.
- Train and mentor entry-level technicians or apprentices as required.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and operational departments to set maintenance priorities and avoid unplanned downtime.
- Operate and monitor computerized preventive maintenance systems when required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Trade qualification or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Maintenance, or equivalent experience in mining or heavy industry.
- 3+ years' experience in the maintenance of fixed plant or mining equipment preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, equipment troubleshooting skills, and ability to read schematics/manuals.
- Experience in welding, fabrication, and use of diagnostic tools.
- Ability to work rotating shifts and respond to emergency repairs.
- Commitment to safety and teamwork, with effective communication skills.
