Job Summary

The Millwright is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fixed plant equipment—including SAG/Ball mills, conveyors, compressors, hydraulic systems, pressure filters, pumps, and piping systems. This role ensures reliable mill operations by conducting preventative maintenance, responding to equipment breakdowns, and supporting safety, production, and environmental goals through technical expertise and effective collaboration with the Processing Maintenance Team.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct diagnostics, perform repairs, scheduled PMs (preventive maintenance), and remedial work on mill and stationary processing equipment to high compliance and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot, modify, fabricate, and repair equipment per supervisor direction; provide input and technical guidance to the maintenance team.
  • Support all aspects of the preventive maintenance program, including fluid checks, lubrication, sampling, component inspections, and routine servicing.
  • Maintain accurate records: generate and complete work orders, select and document use of correct parts from warehouse, organize necessary permits (e.g., confine space, lockout/tagout, hot work).
  • Liaise closely with Mill Supervisors and key stakeholders to prioritize breakdowns and meet production goals.
  • Ensure proper history and records are kept in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Review and help develop work procedures and JHAs, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated; comply with all safety standards (MSHA, OSHA, and site-specific).
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards in all work areas and pro-actively identify safety and process improvements
  • Perform other duties as directed in support of processing maintenance and operations objectives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Completion of a recognized Millwright or Industrial Mechanic apprenticeship or similar related trade certification required.
  • 3+ years’ experience maintaining, repairing, and installing fixed plant equipment in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong mechanical, troubleshooting, and fabrication skills with proficiency in welding, alignment, rigging, and hydraulics.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and equipment schematics accurately.
  • Strong focus on safety, familiarity with workplace safety standards, and commitment to lockout/tagout and other safety protocols.
  • Computer literacy for maintenance management (CMMS) and communication tasks.
  • Ability to work efficiently alone or as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team.
  • Flexibility for shift work, overtime, and planned/unplanned shutdowns as required by mine operations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work in remote mining locations.

Hourly rate: $26.00 - $36.00 / hr
