Job Summary

The Mill Maintenance Planner/Scheduler at Kettle River Operations is responsible for planning, coordinating, and scheduling maintenance activities for the mill to ensure equipment reliability and operational efficiency. This role supports safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programs.

Essential Functions

  • Create daily, weekly, and long-range maintenance schedules for mill equipment in collaboration with maintenance, operations, and warehouse teams.
  • Review work orders, equipment history, and production requirements to plan preventive, corrective, and shutdown maintenance tasks.
  • Prepare detailed job plans outlining labor, materials, tools, permits, safety procedures, and drawings to support efficient maintenance execution.
  • Maintain work order status from creation to closure, ensuring accurate coding, documentation, and recordkeeping within the CMMS or other digital systems.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Supervision to schedule equipment downtime, ensuring manpower, parts, and tools are available and staged in advance.
  • Generate purchase requisitions as instructed by supervision, ensuring accurate account coding and linkage to related work orders.
  • Work with vendors and warehouse personnel to validate stock levels, manage min/max inventory, and support component rebuilds or replacements.
  • Participate in predictive and preventive maintenance program development, using equipment reliability data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead or participate in weekly planning and scheduling meetings; prepare backlog and PM reports for mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and HVAC crews.
  • Support compliance with MSHA and company safety, health, and environmental policies, including inspections, pre-start checks, and documentation of maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders—including maintenance, operations, procurement, and vendors—to ensure maintenance priorities align with operational goals.
  • Maintain organized maintenance documentation and archives, ensuring traceability and audit readiness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Journeyperson certification in a relevant industrial trade (millwright, electrician) or post-secondary diploma/degree in engineering, technology, or related discipline.
  • 5-8 years experience in maintenance planning, scheduling, or fixed plant maintenance in a mining or industrial processing environment.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong understanding of mill processes, equipment, and maintenance procedures.
  • Effective communication, organization, and time management skills, with attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, equipment manuals, and interpret vendor specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver’s license and authorized to work in the US.

Compensation Data

Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000
