Job Summary

Under the direction of the General Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and maintenance of all information and operational technology systems across Kettle River Operations. (KRO) This role ensures the secure, reliable, and efficient operation of networked systems. The superintendent leads a team of IT and OT professionals and plays a key role in technology strategy, cybersecurity, and compliance.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee IT/OT infrastructure including PLCs, SCADA systems, DCS, HMI, and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) (servers, workstations, networking, cloud services).
  • Ensure OT systems are integrated with minimal disruption to operations and safety-critical systems.
  • Maintain high availability and reliability of control systems supporting mine haulage, processing plants, and utilities.
  • Manage site-wide communication systems, including VoIP, radio, Wi-Fi, and fiber networks.
  • Ensure data integrity, system backups, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity.
  • Implement cybersecurity controls to protect both IT and OT assets from cyber threats (NIST, ISO 27001, etc.).
  • Work closely with corporate cybersecurity teams to monitor threats and conduct vulnerability assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., MSHA, ISO, IEC) and corporate standards.
  • Manage and prioritize IT/OT capital and operational projects, including network upgrades, system migrations, and automation enhancements.
  • Create and manage budgets, procurement plans, and vendor contracts.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for continuous improvement and digital transformation opportunities.
  • Oversee the IT/OT team, including system administrators, network engineers, and automation specialists.
  • Develop and maintain site-specific IT/OT strategies aligned with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with all heads of department to align technology initiatives with production needs.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, or a related field is preferred
  • PMP, CISSP, or similar certifications are an asset.
  • 10 years of experience in IT/OT roles with at least 3 years of leadership capacity.
  • Experience in mining, industrial, or construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems (ICS), industrial networking, and system integration.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a high-pressure industrial environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Capability to work in both office and field environments.
  • Valid driver's license and authorized to work in the US.

Compensation Data

Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000
