Job Summary

Under the direction of the IT/OT Superintendent, the IT Specialist supports Kettle River Operations (KRO) by providing setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting for computing systems, network infrastructure, and specialized operational technology. The role ensures site operations run smoothly, data remains secure, and technical issues are resolved promptly for end users. This role will ensure all work completed is in alignment with safety expectations and in full compliance with Kinross policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Completes technical IT activities and ensures accurate and timely completion of departmental technical support tasks.​
  • Delivers installation, commissioning, and maintenance of wired and wireless networking and computing hardware/software used in mining operations.​
  • Maintains real-time data networks, supporting business-critical applications such as fleet management and mobile communications.​
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, including safety, confidentiality, cybersecurity, and environmental regulations.​
  • Conducts and reports results of IT support activities, maintaining accurate and detailed records, logs, and documentation for technologies and assets.​
  • Supports development and implementation of departmental IT standards, policies, and guidelines, updating protocols as necessary.​
  • Serve as a primary contact for the North America Service Desk; troubleshoot and resolve incidents/requests for Windows 11, Windows Server 2019 and newer, O365, Teams, Printing, VPN, and core business apps with high first‑time‑fix rates.
  • Prepares communication materials, user manuals, and technical guides for IT systems and projects.​
  • Responds to complex technology problems, troubleshooting independently within established policies and escalating as needed.​
  • Prioritizes and schedule IT work requested by other departments
  • Responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and recommending IT tools, equipment, and hardware.​
  • Provides informal mentoring and training to less experienced colleagues, sharing technical knowledge and practical skills.​
  • Contributes to developing and revising technology policies, procedures, and security standards based on business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • College diploma, technical training, or equivalent in IT, electronics, computer science, or relevant field preferred.
  • Completion of formal technical certification in IT, networking, or relevant designation preferred.
  • 2+ years’ related work experience in IT technical support or systems administration, preferably in the mining or heavy industrial sector.
  • Previous experience working in a mining, industrial, or oil and gas field highly valued.
  • Quick learner; effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards; demonstrates a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Valid driver’s license and authorized to work in the US.

Compensation Data

Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000
