Job Summary
The Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment to support site infrastructure, including road maintenance, snow removal, and general site services activities. This role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable access across the site while maintaining compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational standards. The position requires strong equipment operating skills, situational awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing site conditions and priorities.
Essential Functions
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment such as graders, loaders, dozers, water trucks, sanders, and snowplows to support site services activities.
- Maintain haul roads, access roads, and work areas through grading, watering, sanding, and surface repair.
- Perform snow removal, de-icing, and winter road maintenance to ensure safe site access during all weather conditions.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections and basic preventative maintenance on equipment; report defects and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Follow all site safety procedures, including traffic management plans, hazard identification, and safe work practices.
- Monitor road conditions and proactively address hazards such as ice, ruts, dust, and drainage issues.
- Support additional site services tasks such as material hauling, site clean-up, and infrastructure support as required.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding work progress, equipment status, and changing conditions.
- Maintain accurate records, including inspection logs, shift reports, and maintenance documentation.
- Assist in emergency response activities as required (e.g., snow events, road closures, or site access issues).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2–5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in mining, construction, or similar environments.
- Experience operating graders and snow removal equipment strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of safe operating practices and site traffic management.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme cold and snow.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for equipment inspections and minor troubleshooting.
- Strong situational awareness and ability to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in mining or industrial environments.
- Familiarity with MSHA regulations and reporting requirements. (preferred)
- Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement.
- Valid driver’s license and authorization to work in the U.S.
