Job Summary
Incumbent will work as part of a team to provide environmental services for a gold mining operation and ancillary facilities. Under the direction of the Environmental Manager or Superintendent, will ensure that company activities are conducted in accordance with company requirements and in compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulations and licenses. Will conduct all activities in a safe manner and align performance and daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
Essential Functions
- Conduct all activities safely, in accordance with safety regulations, rules and policies.
- Assist with the development and implementation of environmental objectives, processes, programs and initiatives across the sites.
- Ensure compliance with the requirements of environmental permits, licenses, and regulations, including monitoring, inspection, recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
- Conduct permitting activities in a timely manner to ensure company operations, project goals and timelines are met, including coordination with operational departments, application submission, and stakeholder engagement.
- Conduct studies and research necessary for permit application or modification, feasibility, and problem solving.
- Effectively communicate with site personnel regarding regulatory obligations and environmental objectives.
- Effectively communicate with regulatory and government agencies, and professional associations, to develop and maintain good working relationships and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain positive rapport with stakeholders to foster working relationships that minimize adversarial actions and maximizes informational exchange.
- Coordinate environmental projects, including contractor, technician and consultant activities.
- Monitor proposed environmental regulatory changes with an eye to their effect on operations and demands on resources (personnel, financial).
- Inform the Superintendent, Environmental Department, immediately of any compliance or permitting issues that may affect the company.
- Ensure that departmental and company goals are achieved by participating in short and long-range planning activities.
- Provide environmental awareness training to site employees.
- Establish and maintain good coordination and communication with peers, supervisors, and employees to promote positive attitudes, safe work practices, and adherence to safe work standards. Lead by example, provide guidance, and motivate employees.

- Perform other duties and functions as assigned.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or related discipline (i.e. geology, biology, civil engineering).
- A minimum of 3 years work experience in environmental permitting or compliance.
- Applied knowledge of relevant federal, state and other regulatory requirements, as-well-as industry standards and practices.
- Experienced with system(s)/database(s) established to manage regulatory obligations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management, regulators/other governmental representatives.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Able to effectively describe environmental regulatory requirements to a diverse workforce.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team, in cooperation with other departments at Kettle River.
- Experience using the following software:
- Microsoft Suite
- Database management
- Preference may be given to an individual with working experience in Washington.
- Available for weekend, emergency response, and incident management call-out.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000
