Job Summary

The Accounting Technician provides essential support to the site finance team by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with internal and external accounting standards. This role focuses on day-to-day accounting tasks such as data entry, reconciliations, and preparing routine reports, enabling smooth financial operations and supporting senior accountants.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain and update financial records, ledgers, and subsidiary journals for site operations.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, ensure timely payments to suppliers and prompt collection of receivables.
  • Prepare and record journal entries, ensuring accuracy prior to posting.
  • Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations to maintain data integrity.
  • Assist with payroll processing and calculation of pay cheques and related deductions.
  • Compile and distribute reports such as cost analyses, statements, invoices, and regulatory documentation.
  • Support audits by providing documentation and resolving discrepancies.
  • Implement internal controls and monitor compliance to protect company assets.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating accounting software or ERP systems as required.
  • Retain and organize technical and financial records to ensure compliance with operational and industry requirements.
  • Respond to internal and external requests for financial documents and information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary coursework in accounting, finance, or bookkeeping preferred.
  • 3 years of related experience in accounting or bookkeeping; mining or industrial experience considered an asset.
  • Attention to detail, strong numeracy, and analytical skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, general ledger, and accounting software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate ethical conduct in managing sensitive records.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Sound understanding of basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and authorized to work in the US.
