Job Description

  • Provide thought leadership and specialized expertise in leading and supporting Nevada based underground capital project studies and execution, ensuring their alignment with medium- and long-term organization strategies
  • Lead the studies and guide future mine development plans utilizing in depth economic analysis tools while remaining aligned with critical permitting and water management aspects of the region.
  • Provide and implement standard industry best practices to develop plans, systems and procedures to ensure projects are managed with a high degree of confidence and transparency
  • Manage opportunities to maintain and improve project economics through cost reduction, engineering, operations improvement, and strategic initiatives through the entire project value chain 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and support multiple complex initiatives and projects concurrently, providing appropriate levels of mentorship and guidance to the various team members and leads to ensure the projects are successful and that ownership of the outcomes is clear and at the appropriate level
  • Working with project directors, project team members, contractors, and corporate, regional and site senior management, managing project studies and the execution of initiatives to assist in the successful delivery of Kinross projects
  • Review and understand industry best practices for project implementation and recommend improvement efforts
  • Collaborate with and provide guidance and recommendations to senior management and peers to identify and analyze risks and opportunities related to capital projects and operations
  • Act as a change agent for areas related to project studies and execution, including assessing readiness to engage in change efforts and design and execute change strategies
  • Prepare business cases and reports regarding projects and initiatives and present recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders and senior corporate and site management
  • Resolve and advise on unique, non-routine, or escalated problems of high complexity or high risk, and provide innovative analysis and solutions
  • Oversee analysis that assists in decision-making around the development and implementation of high-priority capital projects at Kinross. Present recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders
  • When necessary, implement a governance structure, a communication plan, and/or tracking mechanisms to ensure results are achieved
  • Provide an independent, objective view of project delivery with the goal of identifying early-stage issues

Education and Experience

Education

  • University degree in an analytical discipline. Engineering preferred, but allowance will be made for other highly analytical disciplines
  • Additional specialized education of up to 4 years including master’s level degree or equivalent an asset




Experience

  • Fifteen or more years of related work experience focused on study and development of underground mining projects.  Recent experience in Nevada and the western US is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of standard industry approaches with respect to project management and delivery in large EPCM/EPC projects in mining, construction or heavy industry
  • Experience leading teams and supervising and mentoring employees

Skills

  • Strong financial background related to economic evaluations of underground mining projects
  • “Management-level” communication skills in presentation development, oral communication and other documentation.
  • Proven ability to provide leadership and direction to highly skilled corporate, regional and mine site staff using influence skills rather than formal reporting authority
  • Highly collaborative work style, ability to work with project, technical and financial leaders
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge in given technical discipline and/or other disciplines outside of formal education
  • Developed technical report writing and presentation skills
  • Well-developed and proven project management skills and ability to multitask
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and work well in a highly unstructured environment; comfortable with uncertainty
  • Demonstrated ability in an international business context including the ability to work effectively with teams incorporating varied different business cultures
