The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.
Purpose of Role
You will be responsible for obtaining permits for all facets of the project and assist in the development of Federal Impact Assessment and applicable permitting for the Great Bear Project.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage the permitting process in relation to Mining and Exploration licenses and Mine Operations.
- Responsible for identifying permitting requirements, establish timelines and provide management with guidance on the critical path.
- Proactively deal, liaise and follow up with all relevant Government authorities towards getting approvals for applications and renewals of land titles and/or appeals for applications and renewals of land titles.
- Maintain and update the Company’s data base on land matters.
- Liaise with the with the relevant Government authorities towards obtaining the necessary approvals/permits in connection to the Company’s permitting and land matter needs.
- Lead site visits in connection to applications and renewals of the Company’s land titles and all other land matters.
- Coordinate with the Environmental Manager at Great Bear site to ensure alignment on permitting requirements and confirm that any imposed conditions are mutually agreed upon and achievable.
- Coordinate and work with the Great Bear Projects team and External Relations Manager to ensure consultation needs are being met for the Impact Assessment and Provincial Permitting needs.
- Interact with the Great Bear project team particularly with regards to the Impact Assessment and Provincial permitting requirements.
- Responsible for providing management of permitting in respect to Exploration licenses.
- Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements of the facilities.
- Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Natural Resource Management, Biological Sciences or equivalent experience along with a minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in the Mining Environmental field with 5-7 years’ experience specifically related to assessments, permit applications, appeal and negotiations processes.
- Knowledge in reviewing technical documents related to environmental assessments and permitting.
- Solid foundation in provincial and federal legislation as it pertains to mining projects, including but not limited to agencies such as the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment Canada etc.
- A good understanding of cultural and political environment.
- Solid understanding of environmental issues related to historical mine operations.
- Able to comprehend and interpret engineering and environmental science reports.
- General knowledge of all phases of mining and milling operations.
- A strong understanding of land management concepts as they relate to mining, forestry, agriculture and recreation.
- Effective negotiating skills.
- Strong project management abilities.
- Excellent report-writing skills.
Working Conditions
This position is hybrid with frequent travel to site and corporate office. In this role, You will work a 5x2 schedule.
