The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally.  The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.

Job Summary

The Geology Summer Student will be responsible for assisting the Geology team at the Great Bear project. This position will require training within the department while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Assist in the execution of exploration programs.
  • Provide geological support to technical & geological staff.
  • Photo/RQD/RMR/Sample Core as needed.
  • Undertake sampling activities in the field and core yard.

  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to all relevant Great Bear policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

This position will be offered to a student going into their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of a Geology Program. Must provide proof of enrollment in a post-secondary institution on a full-time basis and be returning to the school in the fall. 

  • Demonstrates strong administration, organization and technical skills.
  • Comfortable knowledge working with Microsoft Excel (data entry, basic formulas, filtering, etc.)
  • Comprehends and capable or interpreting technical language.
  • Possess a valid G2 or G Drivers License. 
  • Ability to work outdiirs and in inclement weather when required. 

Work Conditions

This position is based in Red Lake, Ontario. In this role you will work a 5X2 schedule. 

 

Compensation and Total Rewards

The hourly rate for the Geology Student starts at $23.92 per hour. 

The hourly rate is in accordance with our established compensation framework for the role. This rate is fixed for the role and reflects requirements and benchmark market data for similar positions.
